The Department of Labor and Workforce Development Division of Employment and Training Services is recruiting for an
Accounting Technician 2 located in Juneau!
No Cover Letter Required!




This position is in the General Government Unit (GGU) at a Range 14.


What You Will Be Doing:
This position is a part of our Juneau Unemployment Insurance (UI) Tax Central Office team providing customer service support to the public by telephone or email and registering new employers for UI Tax accounts. This position processes Alaska Quarterly Contribution reports and tax payments researches and updates discrepancies in employer accounts and employee wage records prepares and processes accounting adjustments and refunds. This position can act as a mentor for Accounting Technician 1s and is assigned special projects to perform. We work in concert with five field offices located in Juneau Anchorage Kenai Wasilla and Fairbanks.

The UI Tax unit fosters and promotes the welfare of wage earners by continuously educating employers to report and pay contributions correctly. You will join a team of Accounting Technicians who register and maintain employer accounts for Alaskas employers who report their workers wages every quarter. These records are used to calculate UI taxes and UI benefits in accordance with applicable provision of the Alaska Statutes and Regulations.

The Working Environment You Can Expect:
This position is located at 1111 W 8th St Room 203 with plenty of parking near beautiful downtown Juneau with easy breaktime access to the Juneau Seawalk. Our unit works independently and as a team dealing with numbers and provides customer service by educating employers and third parties from many different parts of the state and country on proper reporting of wages and payment of UI taxes.

  • Accounting Operations: Knowledge of general ledger accounting and the control/subsidiary account relationships and reconciliation techniques including accounts receivable accounts payable and disbursing officers accountability.

Qualifications

One year of entry technical level accounting or clerical bookkeeping experience.

Substitutions:
Certification as an Accounting Technician from an accredited college will substitute for the required experience.

Post secondary education from an accredited college will substitute for the required experience (3 semester/4 quarter hours equal one month) if it includes at least 6 semester/8 quarter hours in Accounting.
