Job Description

Lead Data Platform Architect / Senior Architect (Data Systems & Data Engineering)
Location 320 St Vincent Street Glasgow

Flexible Hybrid Working

Salary up to 82000 per annum bonus car allowance excellent benefits

As a Senior Architect within the Data Transformation team you will lead the Data Engineering & Architecture team in the design of sustainable data engineering and architectures to meet the needs of the Data Use Cases brought forward within the SPEN business. Using your Data system architecture cloud architecture and change management experience you will collaborate to design and build the SPEN data estate and processes to meet the requirements of the RIIOED2 RIIOT2 & RIIO3 business plans.

What youll be doing

  • Establish a small technical team across the data systems & operations landscape including:
    • Data pipelines and APIs
    • Data modelling
    • Systems and databases
    • Policies and process
  • Use of specific technologies shall include but not limited to:
    • Developing data ingestion and transformation pipelines using Azure Synapse Analytics Azure Data Lake Storage Gen2 and Azure SQL.
    • Designing and deploying microservicesbased data platforms using Kubernetes.
    • Building and managing containerized data services for scalable and resilient data pipelines.
    • Implementing CI/CD pipelines for data services using GitHub Actions.
  • Steer policy development on data modelling and engineering with internal/external stakeholders including external data interfaces.
  • Develop DataOps processes to encourage sustainable and scalable data provisioning /storage which encourages value creation democratisation of data and reuse.
  • Define and review functional and nonfunctional requirements for data systems and platforms ensuring alignment with business objectives regulatory standards and architectural best practices.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to translate business needs into technical specifications including performance scalability security and data quality requirements.
  • Collaborate and designing data systems which proactively enable future data analytics and other valueadded use cases.
  • Work with Data Governance to ensure compliance with policies.
  • Work with Business Intelligence Data Science and other subject matter expert teams to identify data requirements and integration priorities.
  • Work with Business Transformation to create platforms suitable for scalable/advanced analytics and to enable new tools for analytics and data science teams.
  • Deliver (with Business Transformation) integrated platforms/architectures to enable a
    sustainable and scalable Data Estate and enable reporting business intelligence and advanced analytics such as Machine Learning.
  • Engage with and ensure the implementation of industry best practice in the functional model skills and capabilities when building the organisational design of the function.

What youll be responsible for

  • Responsibility for a CAPEX budget of circa 10million and an OPEX budget of up to 500000 per annum.
  • Leading a specialist team of data engineers and architects with a team of up to 10 direct and 20 indirect employees (contractors).
  • Delivery of technology development initiatives in line with SPEN business plans within CAPEX
    programme.
  • Working and leading within industry forum to steer technology strategy within the networks
    operation sector.

What youll bring

  • Strong understanding of DataOps and project delivery methodologies (such as Agile).
  • Extensive understanding of information systems and asset data and system architecture.
  • Proven capabilities in information and system change delivery in an operational environment.
  • Strong proficiency in Azure data services (Synapse Data Lake Azure SQL Data Factory).
  • Handson experience with Kubernetes for orchestrating containerized data services.
  • Experience designing eventdriven architectures and RESTful APIs for data access and integration.
  • Experience withmonitoring and observabilitytools (e.g. Prometheus Grafana Azure Monitor)
  • Familiarity with infrastructureascode tools (e.g. Terraform) for cloudnative deployments.

To be successful as a minimum you will have

  • Degree qualified in Computer Science Data or a related discipline.
  • Experience leading a team with strong leadership and people management skills.
  • Experience in delivering designs data modelling and architecture for data systems.
  • Proven track record in developing and delivering information system and data change in a large multidisciplined organisation.
  • Strong understanding of effective partnership working with thirdparty organisations.
  • Ability to successfully engage with and influence both internal ScottishPower and Iberdrola groups as well as regulatory bodies and industry working groups (Ofgem DESNZ ENA).
  • Advanced experience in project management and cost management of capital investments in systems.
  • Knowledge and experience with scalable data systems and architectures.
  • Highlevel analytical skills and advanced data/IT abilities.
  • High level of business planning financial and strategic thinking.
  • Highimpact influencing and negotiating skills with respect to technical issues and solutions.
