Job Description

Senior Experienced Operator

Chevron Americas Products is accepting online applications for the position of Senior Experienced Operator at our Richmond CA refinery through May 10th 2025 at 11:59 p.m. PST.

Responsibilities for this position may include but are not limited to:

  • Demonstrates knowledge of Crude unit operations Hydrogen producing Naphtha Hydrotreating and H2S processing unit and has the ability to relate it to others.

  • Operates furnaces pumps compressors and other mechanical equipment that process raw materials feedstocks product transfers.

  • Performs other assigned duties such as minor maintenance (filling tricos lubricating valves replacing gauges etc.) housekeeping and emergency response requirements

  • Displays a comprehensive understanding of refinery policies and procedures

  • Demonstrate ability to be a problem solver. Able to grasp complex issues and apply good problemsolving skills to develop recommendations/solutions

  • Ability to remove roadblocks and consider alternative approaches to arrive at workable solutions.

  • Looks for opportunities to increase efficiency and reduce costs

  • Ability to build rapport and establish positive working relationships both internally and externally to Chevron. Efficiently and effectively takes actions to meet customer needs. Responds and follows up on requests quickly and efficiently. Uses feedback to monitor and address customer concerns.

  • Ability to work closely within a group and with other departments to set priorities coordinate and follow up on business objectives.

Required Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent

  • Valid Drivers License

  • Must have a minimum of five (5) years of work experience as a Process Operator in an oil refinery/petrochemical plant.

  • Must be able to work a rotating 12hour shift overtime as required and oncall.

  • This is a Safety Sensitive Position. Candidates must demonstrate personal commitment to Incident and Injury Free Operations with a proven track record in Safety and Reliability.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Console Operator or Head Operator qualifications

  • Associates/Technical Degree from a Process Technology Program

  • Demonstrates knowledge of the assigned processing unit and has the ability to relate it to others

  • Ability to work closely within a group and with other departments to set priorities coordinate and follow up on business objectives

  • Ability to effectively utilize computer tools

  • Must be able to work independently take initiative and act on opportunities

  • Ability to plan and organize own work

  • Ability to multitask with changing priorities and assignments

*IMPORTANT NOTE:

As part of the application process you will be required to take an assessment that measures aptitude and work styles. We recommend you allow approximately 45 minutes to complete the assessment in one sitting. If you need to exit your progress will be saved.

You will be immediately directed to the testing portal upon submittal of your application at which point you will have 72 hours (about 3 days) to complete the online assessment.

Once complete your assessment score will be valid for 180 days. Should you reapply for another Job Requisition within this timeframe that includes the Operations you will be required to complete the application process and then click on the assessment link. This will resubmit your previous results.

During the interview stage Chevron tests are focused on industrial aptitudes. However Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) test preparation guides may be helpful in preparation for these tests. Candidates should focus on mechanical aptitude reading comprehension understanding information in tables and graphs and understanding industrial math.

  • Industrial Information Test:Measures the ability to read understand and use information in graphs charts tables and written passages to solve problems.

  • Mechanical Aptitude Assessment:Measures the ability to apply general mechanical principles to understand and solve problem situations.

  • Workplace Attitude and Behavior Inventory:Measures personal characteristics important to success in the job applied for. Chevrons tests are focused on industrial aptitudes.

  • Interview Assessment: (Day of interview) Measures the knowledge and competencies that are typically acquired with 5 or more years of process operator experience.

Relocation Options:

Relocation may be considered within Chevrons parameters.

International Considerations:

Expatriate assignments will not be considered.
