Job Description

POSITION DESCRIPTION

TEMPORARY CONTRACT STUDENT FELLOW

The Legal Aid Society is hiring aparttime Student Fellow to assist the Intake team in fielding Custody and Support hotline calls. The position is atemporary contract position working no more than 20 hours per week.

Purpose of the job: Provide support tostaff attorneys in the creation oflegal documents letters and calls to clients and other administrative duties including but not limited to research and client intake.
Work environment: Work is performed in the office setting and remotely.
Reports to Managing Attorney of Intake or other designated manager.
Essential job functions:

  • Provide clients with requestedlegal documents by mail and email.
  • Communicate with clients and the staff attorneysto provide efficient high quality customer service.
  • Draft and edit legal documents with attorney supervision and upon request.
  • Assist with other projects related to improving the operations of the unit.
  • Perform other duties commensurate with duties outlined above at the discretion of his or her supervisor.

Qualifications

  • Must have demonstrable commitment to understanding and addressing issues of lowincome constituents.
  • Must be currently enrolled student and actively pursuing a Bachelors degree or higher. Law school students Social Work graduate students Justice Administration graduate students or similar public service graduate students with an interest in public interest law are preferred.
  • Must have skills to use office technologies including case management software.
  • Must be able to operate a motor vehicle hold a valid drivers license and be able to be insured under the Legal Aid Society auto insurance policy.
  • Second language skills highly valued.
