EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or GED equivalent required. Must be a U.S. citizen and 21 years of age at the time of the TCOLE examination. A Deputy Sheriff Cadet should be a practitioner in the areas of interpersonal skills problemsolving skills and ethical decisions.
CERTIFICATES LICENSES REGISTRATIONS
Other specialized job requirements include a valid Texas drivers license to operate county vehicles and a basic Peace Officer Certification with the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) upon completion of the academy. Must be able to meet TCOLE and department requirements for psychological and medical examinations. Must complete and pass the Comal County Sheriffs Office Physical Readiness Testing Program.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add subtract multiply and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers common fractions and decimals. Ability to compute rate ratio and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written oral or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

The Comal County Sheriffs Office participates in a physical readinesstesting program per the Comal County Sheriffs Office Physical Fitness Policy. Physical assessments are required twice a year to ensure employees possess the physical capability of performing jobrelated tasks while providing services to Comal County and the citizens of Comal County.
While performing the duties of this job the employee is frequently required to sit talk or hear use hands to finger handle or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to stand and walk. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
