Job Description

Thompson Engineering is looking for a qualified Construction Materials Testing (CMT) Technician in Houston TX. This position is responsible for the daily oversight of the construction materials testing and inspection on construction sites to ensure specified standards of quality are met.



DUTIES

1. Utilize a 40 lb. nuclear gauge to run tests on construction materials

2. Obtain concrete samples from the ready mix trucks

3. Make concrete test cylinders

4. Run tests on concrete samples and deliver the samples to the laboratory

5. Observe and record construction crew performance data for related activities

6. Perform visual inspection of rebar

7. Obtain and deliver soil samples from the jobsite to the laboratory

8. Interact with clients and contractors in a professional and ethical manner

9. Ensure that companyowned equipment is maintained in good working order
for use on projects and/or assignments

work assignment

and maintain a daily diary of all field activities for each project

daily reports and other documentation to the Team Leader as
required by project specifications and/or applicable criteria

all tasks assigned in a professional and ethical manner and
according to company policies and procedures

to the Team Leader corrective actions (when necessary) to best
ensure that the quality of work is maintained and meets company standards

all written procedures for work being performed

review all project documents and testing procedures and exhibit
comprehension for the technical requirements and procedures necessary to
perform the assigned work

reports and perform field activities in a timely manner

Other Responsibilities

1. Establish personal goals for improving job performance

2. Ensures on time and regular attendance

3. Attend and actively participate in safety meetings and training programs to
further enhance technical capabilities

4. Other duties as required


QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Requirements

1. High school diploma or equivalent

2. Six (6) months of experience in construction material testing

3. ACI Level I Certification

4. Nuclear Gauge Certification

5. Communicate effectively with others written and verbally

6. Valid drivers license

7. Ability to read and write in English


Physical Requirements

1. Must be willing to work flexible schedules and overtime as needed by the
department needs.

2. Ability to lift and carry a minimum of 50 lbs.

3. Drive a company vehicle in a safe manner

4. Pull or push 400 lbs. in a wheelbarrow

5. Walk stoop bend and climb up and down stairs and ladders

6. Stand walk and balance in irregular and uneven terrain and pavements
concrete grass dirt and gravel

7. Work in high grounds and high open buildings

8. Work for extended periods outside in the heat and cold

9. Ability to wear appropriate PPE for hazardous materials
