This position is 1.0 PY (fulltime position).

The Nunavut Department of Education is committed to supporting staff development through welldesigned professional learning opportunities. Nunavut schools are currently focused on improving literacy outcomes for all students and ensuring students learning experiences are culturally relevant and respectful.

Located in the picturesque hamlet of Gjoa Haven Qiqirtaq High School serves the community of Gjoa Haven. The school has a population of approximately 180 students in a 712 setting with a staff of 24. The school and community are steeped in a rich history of Inuit culture.

Required qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Education degree or pending degree
  • Teaching certification acceptable for Nunavut teaching certificate


Desired qualifications:

  • Experiencein numeracy learning continuum across developmental levels that embraces conceptual understanding of mathematics concepts to strengthen overall understanding
  • Experience in collaborative support of colleagues in the effective creation implementation and use of differentiated instruction strategies to explore mathematics in a hands on environment
  • Experience with formative and summative assessment implementation reporting and analysis
  • Experience planning directing facilitating and/or reviewing peer workshops and professional development modules for adult learners
  • Experience in modeling and/or coaching instructional strategies for teachers
  • Evidence/experience building positive relationships with students colleagues parents stakeholders
  • Teaching experience in an ESL environment
  • Crosscultural and/or northern teaching experience


Please note: Subsidized housing is not available.

The salary for certified teachers ranges from $83643 prorated/annum. to $131151 prorated/annum.

The Northern Allowance for Gjoa Haven is $26345 prorated/annum.
