The Versiti Blood Research Institute (VBRI) located in Milwaukee Wisconsin is an academic center for innovative research in hematology to improve health. VBRI science spans the entire research spectrum from basic mechanistic inquiry to clinicaltranslational and populationbased research. The VBRI currently houses 25 principal investigators with five focus areas Hematopoiesis Thrombosis and Hemostasis Transfusion Medicine Immunology and the Translational Glycomics Center. The VBRI has started a significant expansion of its research capacity with the goal of adding 18 new PIs over a 57year period. Designs for a newft2 research building are under development with completion anticipated for late 2025. With the recruitment as the new Director of the VBRI and Chief Scientific Officer Dr. Michael Deininger a worldrenowned expert in myeloproliferative neoplasms we have commenced a rapid expansion with a renewed emphasis on malignant hematopoiesis.
We seek to enhance our research program in malignant hematopoiesis. Areas of interest include but are not limited to clonal hematopoiesis leukemia metabolism computational approaches lymphoma and myeloid malignancies. Investigators at all academic ranks with a research program focused on malignant hematopoiesis are encouraged to apply. Physicianscientists and researchers with a focus on glycobiology are strongly encouraged to apply. These positions provide attractive startup packages and outstanding opportunities for collaboration with basic translational and clinical investigators. Candidates from diverse backgrounds are strongly encouraged to apply. The VBRI is located on the same campus as the Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW) Childrens Hospital of Wisconsin and Froedtert Hospital which facilitates collaboration provides additional research breadth and enables access to graduate students. VBRI faculty typically hold an appointment at MCW including clinical departments to facilitate translational research. Physicianscientists who apply will be embedded within the appropriate clinical programs on campus based upon their specialty and expertise.
Entirely focused on hematology the VBRI provides a unique environment for hematology research reflected by its long record of scientific excellence and innovation since its founding over seventy years ago. The VBRI is strategically strengthening its programs in malignant hematology to promote both mechanistic and clinicaltranslational science. Eligible candidates will have an M.D. and/or Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree. Candidates with existing NIH or equivalent funding are encouraged to apply.
