ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Works under the direction of assigned supervisor. Reviews applications and supporting documents such as architectural plans for new construction and renovation of structures within historic zoned districts. Gives presentations and makes recommendations to the Memphis Landmarks Commission Land Use Control Board Memphis City Council and other bodies as applicable regarding applications submitted including potential historic districts. Reviews applications for compliance with design guidelines and standards. Provides technical assistances to property owners architects contractors etc. regarding design review historic tax credit information and interpretation of historic guidelines. Assists the certified local government program and nominations to the National Register including preparation of grants reports and monitoring of funds. Contributes to design guidelines based on standards consistent with the Citys Comprehensive Plan and historic overlay districts. Contributes expertise in design and historic preservation to small area plans for the city. Conducts site visits meetings and planning presentations by driving to various locations across the city.

TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Must be able to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing with divisions management City Council external vendors and the public. Requires the ability to operate general office equipment such as a computer copier and telephone. Must be able to operate an automobile.
TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS
Work is performed in an office environment which involves contact with employees at all levels and various government agency officials. Requires frequent travel throughout the city for meetings and site visit purposes. May be exposed to noise and various weather conditions while conducting site visits and planning presentations. Some evening or weekend work may be required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelors degree in Urban Studies City/Community or Regional Planning Architecture Urban Design or related field and five (5) years of experience in Urban or Municipal Planning or community development; or any combination of experience and training which enables one to perform the essential job functions. Masters degree may substitute for two (2) years of experience. Must possess and maintain a valid drivers license as a condition of continued employment.
