Job Description
Job Summary:The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) will provide comprehensive nursing care and support medically compromised students within the school setting and during transportation to and from school. This role requires a skilled compassionate nurse who is committed to ensuring the health safety and wellbeing of the student in all environments. The LPN will collaborate with school staff parents and healthcare providers to ensure that the students medical needs are effectively managed throughout the school day and during transit.
Key Responsibilities:
This position requires workingindependently andcollaboration with school personnel and families.
- Provide direct nursing care to the student during school hours including monitoring vital signs administering prescribed medications managing medical conditions and providing emergency care as needed.
- Support the student during daily school activities including lunch recess and classroom settings ensuring health needs are met.
- Accompany the student on school transportation (e.g. school bus) to ensure safety and immediate medical support if required during transit.
- Administer medication according to the students care plan and document administration and any related observations accurately.
- Develop and maintain a comprehensive uptodate care plan in collaboration with the school nurse parents and other healthcare providers.
- Communicate with the school administration teachers and support staff about the students medical needs and health status.
- Respond to healthrelated emergencies quickly and efficiently including the use of first aid and CPR when necessary.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant health and safety regulations school policies and state/national nursing standards.
- Monitor and maintain appropriate documentation of the students health records medications treatments and any incidents or changes in condition.
- Participate in meetings with parents guardians and healthcare providers to discuss the students health care needs modifications to care plans and updates to medical documentation.
- Provide health education and support to school staff related to the students condition and health needs.
- Qualifications:
- Current and valid Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license in Massachusetts.
- Current CPR and First Aid certification.
- Experience working with children particularly in a school or healthcare setting is preferred.
- Ability to manage medical needs including administering medications first aid and emergency care.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to interact effectively with students parents school staff and healthcare providers.
- Knowledge of school health policies and regulations and ability to maintain confidentiality of medical information.
- Ability to remain calm focused and professional in emergency situations.
- Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift and assist students if necessary during transportation or in emergency situations.
- Ability to perform physical tasks such as bending standing walking and carrying medical supplies.
- Ability to remain alert and attentive during school hours and while on transport.
Terms of Employment:
- School Year and Summer
- Schedule: 205 days (July June)
- 3540 hours per week
- Rate: $40$45 per hour
- This position may require some flexibility in hours to accommodate the students needs during transportation or special school events.
