Position Summary

The Education Coordinator/Advisor for MSU Denvers TRIO Upward Bound program plays a vital role in supporting firstgeneration lowincome and underrepresented high school students by fostering the academic skills motivation and preparation necessary for success in postsecondary education. This position is responsible for designing and implementing instructional programming advising students coordinating college readiness efforts and contributing to recruitment retention and data reporting. The Education Coordinator/Advisor also acts as a liaison between schools community partners and the university while managing aspects of programming and budget in alignment with federal TRIO grant requirements.

This position reports to the Director and is funded through a federal grant. Duties/Responsibilities

20% Student Advising & Academic Support

• Provide comprehensive academic and college advising to a cohort of Upward Bound participants.
• Monitor academic progress attendance and school engagement; intervene with appropriate strategies.
• Develop and track individualized education plans (IEPs) in collaboration with students families counselors and instructors.
• Support high school course selection to ensure students are collegeready and meet graduation requirements.
• Offer career exploration opportunities and mentoring tailored to student goals.

20% College & Career Readiness

• Guide students through the college admissions process including application essays timelines and document collection.
• Provide workshops and oneonone support for financial aid including FAFSA completion and scholarship searches.
• Organize college visits tours and speaker events to expand postsecondary awareness.
• Deliver SAT/ACT prep and coordinate student registration.

20% Instructional Programming & Curriculum Development

• Design and implement in school afterschool academic enrichment programs aligned with student needs and TRIO objectives.
• Deliver seminars focused on study skills time management and testtaking strategies and other topics.
• Coordinate tutoring services and academic interventions.
• Develop and implement summer program curriculum including summer bridge programming for graduating seniors.
• Integrate SocialEmotional Learning (SEL) strategies into workshops and events.

10% Student Recruitment & Engagement

• Recruit eligible students through partnership with school counselors and educators.
• Conduct intake interviews orientation and initial needs assessments.
• Develop and implement engagement and retention strategies to ensure student success and persistence.
• Maintain communication with students and families regarding services and expectations.

10% School & Community Partnership Liaison

• Build and maintain strong relationships with target schools counselors teachers and administrators.
• Identify and coordinate servicelearning and communitybased opportunities for student enrichment.
• Represent the program at school functions community events and recruitment fairs.

5% Event & Staff Supervision

• Plan and supervise student enrichment activities cultural field trips and leadership events.
• Recruit hire train and supervise student mentors and instructional staff especially during the summer component.

5% Data Management Evaluation & Compliance

• Maintain accurate records of student participation and progress using the chosen database system.
• Support data collection and evaluation efforts to assess program effectiveness and meet grant objectives.
• Assist in compiling data for annual reporting and ensure compliance with federal TRIO regulations.

5% Program Development & Budget Oversight

• Manage budget for instructional materials and programming needs in alignment with grant guidelines.
• Collaborate with Director on planning and implementing new initiatives to meet program goals and compliance.

5% Other Duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

• Bachelors degree in Education Human Services Psychology Sociology or a related field.
• Experience working with diverse urban youth populations.
• Strong academic advising or mentoring background in educational outreach programs.
• Knowledge of secondary education systems and college admissions.
• Experience supervising staff and/or managing educational programming.
• Familiarity with FERPA and confidentiality standards.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in TRIO or other federally funded educational access programs.
• Familiarity with Colorado and Denver Public School standards.
• Conversational Spanish speaking ability.
• Knowledge of TRIO regulations and compliance reporting.
• Experience with curriculum development and academic intervention.

Work Hours

• Fulltime 40 hours per week Exempt
• During the academic year: Mon Thurs: 10:00am 6:30pm Fri: 8:00am 5:00pm.
• Evenings and Weekends: Occasional Saturdays and overnights as needed.
• Summer and eventbased scheduling flexibility required.
• One day remote work per week may be available based on program needs.
• Travel: Rarely

Salary for Announcement

We anticipate the qualified candidate to be placed between $47300 $55000. The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors including but not limited to internal equity experience education specialty and training. Additionally Student Affairs has committed to tying our salaries to an understanding of a living wage. To that end we will not pay less than $47300.

The above salary range represents the Universitys good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
