Job Summary

City of Greeley is seeking an energetic responsible intern to join the growing Natural Areas & Trails (NAT) Division. In this position you will learn the insandouts of daily routines and procedures in a local open space program. You will assist NAT staff in planning and implementing outreach and communication strategies. This may include a variety of tasks including developing interactive activities appropriate for a range of ages managing a booth at community events taking pictures and videos during events and on natural area properties writing content for social media posts. This position will also assist with NATs signage inventory and installation. These tasks may include creating an inventory system of stored signage organizing and cataloging stored signage installing signage on trails and designing new signage. Finally this position will support the Poudre Trail Ambassador program through communication with trail ambassador volunteers and organizing popup event opportunities. Assignments will be tailored to provide the intern a variety of opportunities to utilize current knowledge and skills while also offering opportunities to acquire new skills and knowledge. A basic knowledge in communications human dimensions of natural resources botany wildlife biology land conservation environmental education or other closely related field is desired; strong interpersonal and communication skills including facetoface and in written format; the ability to work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions and traverse a variety of terrains.
This position will require some weekend and evening hours to attend events and public meetings. The intern is expected to attend events on the following dates: June 14 June 21 June 25 (early morning or evening) August 23 September 20 October 4. This is not an exhaustive list of events others may be added. Outside of working events intern will work with supervisor to create a flexible weekly schedule. This position is anticipated to work 2030 hours per week. The term of the position is up to six months.

Experience Knowledge Skills

Minimum Requirements

  • High school degree or equivalent
  • Must be 18 years of age and possess a valid drivers license
  • Students with practical or educational experiences in natural resources

  • Computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite (Word PowerPoint and Excel)
  • Selfdirected and able to work without supervision
  • Energetic and eager to tackle new projects and ideas
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to speak clearly and communicate effectively with coworkers and the public
  • Ability to apply common sense and critical thinking to carry out instructions and make decisions within scope of authority
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several variables
  • Ability to follow policies and procedures
  • Excellent writing and communication skills
