Job Description

POSITION SUMMARYThe Blaster is responsible for the setup operation and maintenance of blast machines. The Blaster will operate the equipment according to the specific company standards or customer specifications. The Blaster must be able to read and understand work orders. They must follow all company guidelines and safety rules when performing their duties.
2nd Shift Sun Thur 2:30PM to 11:30PM
SKILLS/SPECIFICATIONS
- Ability to blast with an abrasive grit all surfaces that are to be coated per work order instructions.
- Test samples of materials or products to ensure compliance with specifications using test equipment.
- Inspects surfaces for visible moisture rust scale or other contamination such as fingerprints commodity or detrimental material.
- Transfer materials supplies and products between work areas using moving equipment and hand tools.
- Maintain and repair equipment that is used throughout the blasting process to move materials through production processes.
- Check grit levels perform sieves test and add grit as needed.
- Dislodge and clear jammed materials or other items from machinery and equipment using hand tools.
- Maintain a clean workspace and follow tooling requirements.
- Other duties and projects as assigned by the Repair Manager Repair Supervisor or Team Leader.
EDUCATIONAL/EXPERIENCE/REQUIREMENTS
- High School diploma or GED.
- Ability to read and comprehend work orders.
OTHER SKILLS/ABILITIES REQUIRED
- Dependable. Meets standards of punctuality and attendance.
- Mechanically inclined and willingness to learn different tasks.
- Complies with all safety rules and procedures.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Working in this environment requires the use of safety equipment to include but not limited to; eye safety glasses work boots and the ability to wear a respirator.
- The ability to perform physical activities that require considerable use of arms and legs and moving the whole body such as climbing lifting balancing walking stooping and handling of materials for more than 50% of the workday.
- Ability to lift 50 pounds safely and able to drag blast hose over full length of the railcar.
- Working around heavy moving equipment with intermittent exposure to vibration when using impact tools.
- Work outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Work in elevated heights and confined spaces. Able to navigate scaffolds floors ladders and walking surfaces that are uneven.
- Use of blast hood as required.
- The ability to sustain mental and visual attention to details for sustained periods of time.
WORK SITE ENVIRONMENT
- Must always comply with all safety requirements and lead by example regarding safety.
- Primary work environment subject to extreme heat or cold for considerable amounts of time. Must dress accordingly.
- Hearing protection shall be required in certain designated areas to noise levels greater than 80 decibels.
- Scaffolds floors ladders and walking surfaces may be uneven.
