Meet the Team
Silicon Labs Systems Teams mission is to ensure our products have the right features and technologies to win in our target market segments. The team is responsible for generating technical requirements for our products in ways that leverage the latest standards and technologies to solve our customers most urgent problems.
As a Principal Systems Engineer you will serve as a technical leader shaping the PHY/MAC architecture across SiliconLabs wireless IoT portfolioincluding WiFi Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) IEEE802.15.4/Thread Zigbee and SubGHz (FSK proprietary) solutions. Your deep expertise in these protocol families will guide the definition modeling prototyping and validation of innovative PHY/MAC solutions that deliver marketleading range robustness coexistence and ultralowpower performance.
Responsibilities:
- Architect RF PHY/MAC solutions that meet or exceed application and standards requirements (BluetoothLE IEEE802.15.4/Thread WiFi Matter etc.).
- Comprehend market and customer needs and deliver detailed technical requirements in our requirements management tool (JAMA).
- Prototype & evaluate novel concepts using simulation(Matlab Python SystemVue Verilog) and handson lab work to quantify range throughput power coexistence and reliability.
- Collaborate with RF design digital design firmware software and product marketing teams to drive architectural decisions and resolve systemlevel tradeoffs.
- Drive Standards & Innovation by participating in wireless standards bodies publishing whitepapers and driving high value innovations into our products.
- Guide Development by reviewing design implementations verifying that system features meet requirements and supporting debug from lab bringup through customer production.
- Mentor & Educate internal engineering and customerfacing teams on RF system architecture best practices and new technologies.
Skills You Will Need
Minimum qualifications:
- B.S. or M.S. in Electrical Engineering Communications Engineering or related field and 10years professional experience in RF transceiver or wireless systems design.
- Expert level knowledge of at least one shortrange wireless standard (BluetoothLE IEEE802.15.4 WiFi etc.) covering both PHY modulation/coding and MAC scheduling mechanisms.
- Demonstrated handson experience developing or validating PHY/MAC firmware or RTL; proficiency with simulation tools (Matlab Python SystemVue) and RF lab equipment (spectrum/network analyzers vector signal generators oscilloscopes).
- Strong grasp of RF system metrics (link budget EVM sensitivity blocker performance) and low power IoT design constraints.
- Proven ability to author clear technical requirements and influence crossfunctional teams through datadriven analysis and communication.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
The following qualifications will be considered a plus:
- Technical leadership or architecture ownership for wireless SoCs that have shipped to highvolume production.
- Active participation in wireless standards working groups (BluetoothSIG IEEE802.15.4 WiFi Alliance CSAMatter etc.).
- Experience with coexistence strategies across BT/BLE WiFi Thread/Zigbee and cellular.
- Knowledge of security reliability and spectrum sharing techniques at the PHY/MAC layers (FEC adaptive data rates whitening channel hopping DFS etc.).
- Familiarity with agile development processes and requirements management tools (Jira Confluence Jama etc.).
- M.S. or Ph.D. focused on RF communications is a plus.
