About the Opportunity:
Overview
The individual will be capable of completing high end engineering analysis verifying and optimizing the design of components and systems associated with the development of cardiovascular and strength fitness equipment. The individual will also research alternative analytical approaches and bring new capabilities to Life Fitness as appropriate.
Primary Responsibilities
- Support Mechanical Engineering team by providing high end engineering analyses such as Finite Element Analysis (FEA) dynamic simulations thermal and dynamic simulations and design calculations to prove out the feasibility of and optimize component and subsystem designs.
- Review analysis performed by other mechanical engineers for correctness and provide recommendations for improving analytical techniques
- Participate in design reviews as a reviewing authority to help ensure product and component designs meet reliability cost and manufacturability requirements
- Work with Reliability and Compliance teams to develop component and product test set ups are appropriate as assigned
- Collaborate with other engineering disciplines manufacturing purchasing and document control departments within Life Fitness as well as outside customers and vendors.
- Ensure.
- Conceptualize and Lead projects to improve Mechanical Engineering department analytical capabilities
Required Skills Abilities and Knowledge
- Excellent knowledge of 3D CAD software SolidWorks preferred
- Excellent knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)
- Highly skilled at completing advanced engineering analyses such as:
- FEA
- Dynamic simulations
- Thermal
- Hand calculations
- In depth knowledge of metal part design including:
- Sheet metal
- Weldments
- Castings
- Machined components
- Aluminum extrusions
- Strong understanding of plastic component design including:
- Injection molding
- Extrusions
- Thermoforming
- Knowledge of electromechanical component design/application
- Working knowledge and demonstrated ability to apply Design for Six Sigma (DFSS) tools
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent presentation skills
- Strong interpersonal skills for working with external and internal teams
- Demonstrated leadership experience in professional or volunteer organizations preferred
Education
Bachelors of Science in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
Experience
10 years of experience as a mechanical engineer in a related field or equivalent amount of demonstrated skill in high end mechanical engineering analysis

The salary range for this position intended for U.S. applicants is $106400 $149600 actual salary will vary based on applicants education experience skills and abilities. The salary range reflected is based on a primary work location of Franklin Park IL and the actual salary may vary for applicants in a different geographic position is eligible to participate in Life Fitness / Hammer Strengths annual Manager Incentive Plan to receive an annual discretionary bonus in addition to base salary.
