Senior Engineering Manager
As the Senior Engineering Manager you will be managing two of our key Engineering teams: Core and Enterprise. These two teams are responsible for our core product capabilities as well as our latest Enterprise offering. By leading these teams youll be driving both the technical and people strategy to support their success as well influencing the entire Engineering team in partnership with the VP of Technology.
Partnering with diverse leaders across the organization youll deliver high quality and scalable software solutions to drive commonskus growth. You will have the opportunity to shape and execute long term technical initiatives that anticipate business and platform needs over a 1218 month horizon. While you may not directly code daytoday you will provide technical guidance review technical solutions and help the engineers grow their technical skills.
Youll develop and grow high performing teams by attracting developing and retaining top talent. You will partner with the VP of Technology to shape the future of engineering at commonsku fostering a culture of strong technical and operational excellence and scaling our engineering process.
Youll work on:
- Partnering with Product Management and Design to shape roadmaps and define clear technical and performance requirements for future initiatives.
- Championing an agile mindset with team rituals and processes that support predictable delivery fast feedback loops and continuous improvement.
- Leading the delivery of complex crossfunctional engineering projects. Scoping and staging work into welldefined milestones ensuring alignment with commonskus vision.
- Serving as a technical leader and thought partner resolving ambiguity and applying strong engineering judgment to ensure sustainable and scalable systems.
- Building growing and retaining a team of talented engineers by fostering an environment of psychological safety accountability and technical excellence partnering with the People team
- Providing regular coaching feedback and career development aligned with our career ladder.
- Ensuring each team member understands how their work connects to customers mission and business strategy.
- Balancing business customer and technical tradeoffs thoughtfully and transparently.
- Identifying strategic opportunities to improve engineering practices tools or systems and driving adoption of improvements at scale.
- Representing engineering in companylevel initiatives helping others understand the impact scope and feasibility of proposed technical solutions.
- Modeling clear proactive and tailored communication across levels and audiences.
- Sharing learnings progress and outcomes broadly and effectively to ensure visibility and alignment.
With the experience we think will help you succeed:
- 8 years of experience in software engineering with a proven track record of delivering scalable highquality software in a fastpaced environment.
- 24 years of experience managing engineers including hiring onboarding performance management and career development.
- Experience partnering with Product and Design partners to shape roadmaps define scope and deliver customercentric features.
- Strong understanding of Agile principles and experience evangelizing them.
- Demonstrated ability to lead complex crossfunctional projects from concept to delivery balancing technical tradeoffs and business outcomes.
- Strong technical background with handson experience in system design architecture and modern development practices. A plus if you have managed architectural transformations especially in a monolithic environment.
- Strong communication skills both written and verbal.
- Proven experience mentoring and growing engineers across varying levels fostering a highperformance feedbackdriven culture.
- Proven ability to build and scale engineering processes that support team health delivery speed and code quality.
- Bias for operating with a sense of urgency and action customerfirst philosophy and ability to think and act strategically
- Nice to have: Experience with Generative AI and applying it to solve customer problems
Things youll want to know about the opportunity:
- We believe in paying fairly and being proactive about ensuring our team is rewarded growth and innovation. We value unique contributions and being a place where people can grow and do the best work of their careers. The starting base salary compensation range for this role is $170000 to $190000 CAD annually.
- New hires generally come in at the midpoint of this range. However if this role sounds perfect for you and your expectations are outside of this range we encourage you to apply and let us know in your application about your ideal package. If we agree that its a good fit we will have open discussion around whats possible.

- This role is open to candidates based in and legally eligible to work in Canada with the ideal candidate being located in Toronto. On an exceptional basis we are open to candidates in other parts of Canada with the exception of Quebec. (We love the province we are not currently in a position to employ folks there! Dsol!)

You will meet them 11 in a remote setting to go through system design exercises how you collaborate with your product peers and how you plan. You will learn more insights about the teams here and we encourage meaningful conversations for both sides to learn more about one another.
- Wait for a Decision: Hiring manager consolidates and evaluates feedback from the team to make a hiring decision
