Job Description

Director of Human Resources (14 Month TERM)

TITLE: Director of Human Resources (TERM position July 7 2025 September 18 2026)
REPORTS TO: Executive Director
DIRECT REPORTS: Volunteer Manager Payroll and Benefits Coordinator HR Coordinator Recruitment Coordinator


The Director of Human Resources has overall responsibility for the functioning of Main Street Projects (MSP) Human Resources (HR) Department. The Director provides HR advice and support to the management team and maintains efficient and effective HR policies procedures and practices in accordance with HR best practices applicable labour and employment laws and regulations and union and employment contracts. The Director provides training and coaching to managers and directors as needed and offers leadership development opportunities for staff.


KEY RESPONSBILITIES


Human Resource Management & Labour Relations

Responsibility for Human Resources Department
  • Establish and maintain efficient and timely HR processes and services
  • Ensure that managers and directors have access to statistics and other information they require to manage their staff/teams
  • Maintain confidential employee files in accordance with MSP policies
  • Provide direct oversight to the Recruitment Coordinator and HR Coordinator
  • Oversee preparation of letters and other documentation for hiring and management of staff
  • Track HR management decisions to support fairness and consistency
Quality Risk & Innovation

EDUCATION & QUALIFICATIONS

  • Related educational and professional experience with demonstrated experience in Human Resources management
  • Significant experience in a leadership capacity in comparable complex organizations preferably in the nonprofit sector
  • Experience in strategic planning budgets and finance.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of recruitment & selection performance management learning and development compensation and benefits HR Information Systems and HR Analytics
  • Satisfactory Criminal Record with clear Vulnerable Sector Search and a clear Adult Abuse Registry Check required.
  • Valid Class 5 Drivers License.

SKILLS & SPECIFICATIONS

  • Superior ability to communicate effectively and concisely both verbally and in writing.
  • Superior ability to deliver presentations to a variety of audiences and to skillfully handle onthespot questions from senior management members of the board special interests groups and staff.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues at all levels of the Agency Board members participants and family partners and general public.
  • Ability to identify understand and meet or exceed the requirements of internal and external partners
  • Ability to think and act strategically and implement change strategies
  • Excellent project/time management analytical/critical thinking problem solving and decisionmaking skills.
  • Proven financial acumen with the ability to improve effectiveness and efficiency through the management and utilization of human financial and physical resources.
  • Strong leadership skills including the ability to direct motivate evaluate and recognize staff; proven ability to share skills and knowledge with others.
  • Proven conflict management abilities and mediation skills
  • Proficiency with office computer equipment and software
  • Competent in the application of Health and Safety standards
  • Ability to create a work environment that encourages open and transparent communication and where opinions and contributions of all team members are valued.
  • Inspire and foster team commitment spirit and trust amongst diverse colleagues and stakeholders.

  • Experience collaborating and consulting with others both within and outside of your organization.
  • Ability to work flexible hours to allow for attendance at meetings and may include evening holiday or weekend consultation.
  • Knowledge of TRC Calls to Action MMIWG Call to Justice and UNDRIP
  • Additional languages (Indigenous) are considered an asset
  • Experience working with Indigenous organization and/or communities an asset
  • Satisfactory Criminal Record with Clear Vulnerable Sector Search and a Clear Adult Abuse Registry Check
  • Ability to participate in oncall rotation
