Normal Work Schedule:Monday Friday 8:00am to 5:00pm; frequent evenings and weekends.
Job Summary:The Assistant Director of Student Development serves as the primary advisor of the University Programs studentled programming board. Oversees the recruitment training retention and development of the University Programs student team. Provides professional presence and oversight at events. Ensures financial reporting is following internal processes and controls as outlined in University policies and procedures.
Additional Department Summary:Serves as the primary advisor of the University Programs studentled programming board which plans and implements largescale collaborative campus events. Oversees recruitment training retention and development of the University Programs student team. Provides professional presence and oversight at events. Provides oversight to plan execute and host events for University Programs during early morning late night and weekend programming signature initiatives campus wide. Coordinates with vendors oncampus partners and other stakeholders to execute event needs. Works with students and staff on the comprehensive event planning process including organization management risk management financial and marketing plans best practices research and other logistical details of programming and event planning. Recruits selects and trains qualified student leaders and student staff for the University Programs team to execute largescale oncampus programming. Develops ongoing professional development programs for continuous leadership and learning opportunities for student staff. Represents the Director when necessary. Assists in administrative projects including developing strategic plans and goals policies and procedures staff development and assessment and evaluation plans for the office. Participates in staff training meetings serve on committees. Attends conferences and other programs promoting University Programs and Division of Student Life. Completes required training and promoting a safe hospitable and respectful workplace. Holds staff accountable for completion of required training. Has personal accountability for financial reporting and responsibility for establishing enforcing and following internal processes and controls as outlined in UA policies and procedures.
Required Minimum Qualifications:Bachelors degree and four (4) years of student life/student affairs experience; OR masters degree and two (2) years of student life/student affairs experience.
Additional Required Department Minimum Qualifications: Must be able to work early mornings and frequent nights and weekends.
Must have valid U.S. drivers license. Must be at least 19 years of age at time of hire and have an acceptable Motor Vehicle Report that is in compliance with University policies. Applicants under the age of 21 will have some driving restrictions.
Skills and Knowledge:Ability to be flexible with work schedule. Excellent written and verbal communications skills. Strong interpersonal skills. Organizational skills and the ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks. Knowledge of student development and the ability to work with a variety of students and staff while fostering a positive environment. Skills in marketing and advertising campaign development and/or management event planning and staff management. Demonstrated knowledge and ability in budget development and monitoring. Demonstrated ability to identify and resolve problems effectively and independently. Demonstrated commitment to supporting all students.
Preferred Qualifications:Masters degree in higher education communication marketing or public relations leadership hospitality management or a related field. Three (3) years of professional experience in student programming activities leadership or development. Experience working within a higher education (university or college) environment. Graduate or professional experience in student programming advising marketing graphic design communication organizational leadership experience.
