Department Summary

The Department of Human Physiology is home to undergraduate and graduate students who desire strong training in human physiology and anatomy that will prepare them for careers in medicine allied health professions and biomedical research. The department is strongly committed to inclusive and evidencebased teaching practices. The department has strengths in cardiovascular respiratory and muscle physiology neuroscience/motor control cell signaling and metabolism and biomechanics. Human Physiology has strong partnerships with university athletics the Bioengineering Department the Phil and Penny Knight Campus for Accelerating Scientific Impact the Wu Tsai Human Performance Alliance and is aligned with a new Provosts initiative on Sport and Wellness.

The Department of Human Physiology is dedicated to building a diverse community that is committed to teaching and working in a multicultural environment. The candidate is expected to be an active participant in the department college and university DEI missions.

Position Summary

The Department of Human Physiology at the University of Oregon is seeking an innovative assistant teaching professor to join a growing nationallyrecognized program that provides a flexible curriculum and an engaging learning environment for over 1400 undergraduate majors in both Human Physiology and Neuroscience. These students aspire to be professionals in health science fields such as medicine physical therapy occupational therapy nursing dentistry pharmacy education and research.

The career assistant teaching professor will engage in departmental and university service work effectively with faculty staff and students with diverse backgrounds participate in student advising and to be a leader in evidencebased pedagogy for the Department of Human Physiology. Specific teaching needs include undergraduate instruction in lowerdivision classes (Medical Terminology Research Methods) upperdivision courses (Neuroanatomy Neurophysiology Motor Control) and Neuroscience capstone classes (e.g. Concussion Neural Development Movement Disorders Clinical Neuroscience Techniques in Neuroscience).

While this is not a tenuretrack position it is expected to be an ongoing position at the rank of assistant teaching professor or associate teaching professor depending on experience.

Minimum Requirements

To qualify for the rank of assistant teaching professor:
Masters Degree in Human Physiology Neuroscience or a related field.
Two years of experience teaching Neuroscience courses at the college level (including during grad school).

To qualify for the rank of associate teaching professor:
Masters Degree in Human Physiology Neuroscience or a related field.
Eight years of experience teaching Neuroscience courses at the college level (including during grad school).

Professional Competencies

Knowledge of and experience with teaching and learning strategies at the university level (e.g. curricular and pedagogical evidencebased best practices constructive professional relationships and collaborations with students faculty and/or staff within an organization continued professional development in teaching pedagogy).
Ability to work effectively with faculty staff and students with diverse backgrounds.

Preferred Qualifications

Ph.D. in Human Physiology Neuroscience or a related field.
Graduate Clinical Degree (e.g. Athletic Training Physical Therapy Physician Physical Assistant Nursing) with experience teaching clinical classes (e.g. Clinical Neuroscience Concussion or Tissue Injury and Repair).
Background in cellular functional behavioral evolutionary computational molecular cellular and medical aspects of the nervous system.
At Senior Instructor I Level significant experience engaging in professional development around the scholarship of teaching and learning.
