Responsibilities:
- Perform new track construction or maintenance tasks associated with railroad tracks
- Operate heavy or specialized equipment including but not limited to skid steer plugger spike puller bolt machine compactor/ roller
- Practice safe working habits and ensure proper PPE is being used
- Be comfortable working outside in all weather conditions
- Communicate with team and supervisor throughout the job process
Specialized or Technical Knowledge or Education and Experience:
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Experience working outdoors (preferably in construction)
- Mobility to participate in frequent travel to and from project location
- Safety conscious with high regard to other employees working with and near equipment
Physical Requirements:
- Able to perform physical strenuous work
- Able to frequently bend stoop kneel and crouch
- Able to lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 lbs
- Requires occasional use of 30 lb claw bar to remove spikes requiring application of 50 lbs of force
- Requires occasional use of 10 lb sledgehammer to drive spikes requiring application of 75 lbs of force
- Able to walk climb and maintain balance on equipment stairs ladders uneven terrain rails and ballast in a safe manner
- Able to navigate into confined spaces if necessary
Environmental Conditions:
- Performs duties in multiple environments including outside construction project settings in and around moving vehicles and equipment. Exposure to weather elements; must wear appropriate PPE required for the project site.
Major or Unusual Problems:
- Extensive travel and requirement to stay at project sites for the duration of project. Must carry out responsibilities in a fastpaced outside construction environment
- Will require being away from home for extended periods.
