Job Description

TITLE: RI Reads COACH This coaching position is a twoyear commitment (202027) with the potential of two additional years (202029). JOB GOAL:The K5 RI Reads Coach Position is a fulltime teacher leader position. The RI Reads Coach works collaboratively with the K8 ELA Coordinator RIDE and the Assistant Superintendent. They are responsible for ensuring highquality instruction in classrooms through instructional reviews coplanning and guiding teachers on researchbased instructional practices. This is NOT a supervisory position and DOES NOT include evaluation of colleagues. The RI Reads coach will plan and facilitate professional learning sessions for K5 ELA teachers MLL specialists and special educators in best practices that encourage studentcentered learning and promote oracy and meaningful student discourse to maximize each students literacy skills. The coach will also provide jobembedded professional learning through coaching sessions on unit internalization aiming to increase the use of researchbased writing strategies. The RI Reads coach is a critical lever in improving student learning outcomes by building teacher capacity through professional learning aligned to the RI Core Standards for ELA and Science or Reading to impact student outcomes. The RI Reads Coach is a teacher with strong expertise in both ELA content and extensive experience using researchbased instructional practices. The RI Reads Coach is also skilled in modeling effective strategies to enable all students to become gradelevel writers. The coach works collaboratively with classroom teachers/gradelevel teams to reflect on their use of evidencebased strategies to develop goals for highly successful reading and writing outcomes for all learners. The RI Reads Coach develops and implements coaching sessions that include instructional reviews feedback and continued support for teachers to implement evidencebased instructional protocols successfully. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSSupport the intellectual preparation for unit internalization of HighQuality Instructional Materials (HQIM) and use of researchbased strategies for writing implementation of evidencebased literacy practices confirmed by What Works ClearinghouseMeet with the K8 ELA Coordinator and/or Assistant Superintendent up to ten instructional days of professional learning and receive coaching observation and feedback through RI READS Corps including launch sessions in August with the K8 ELA Coordinator to analyze data and assess needs to plan for the implementation of professional learning including coaching cycles for classroom teachers and collaborators/specialists professional learning for gradelevel teams during CPT/PLC/CTT and larger gradespan as a member of the BWRSD Literacy Advisory TeamAnalyze teacher practice through ongoing instructional reviews grounded in researchbased practices that include HQIM unit internalization implementation and the examination of student in analyzing assessment data schoolwide and districtwide to inform curriculum and instructional practices across the district. Develop teacher and administrator capacity to collect and analyze multiple data sources to improve student reading and writing to foster grade level and schoolwide collaboration focused on high expectations for all students academic rigor and the academic and socialemotional supports needed to increase copies of Coaching Cycle Plans Coaching Logs and data on professional learning outcomes to be shared with the K8 ELA Coordinator Assistant Superintendent and Principals as relevant to their school. Complete other duties as may be assigned by the Assistant Superintendent and/or QUALIFICATIONS:Current Rhode Island teaching certificate with K8 ELA/Literacy experienceCompletion of Science of Reading proficiency training At least 5 years of successful ELA teaching experience in grades 38 Expertise in the RI Core ELA Standards researchbased writing strategies and HMH Into Reading to complete the training to become a RIDE endorsed coach and provide professional development in ELA instructionSuccessful completion of required Coaching Training for continued employment. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:Advanced coursework in Literacy (preferred) Preference is given to candidates with prior successful coaching or teacherleader is given to candidates with extensive training in Into Reading DIBELS iReady reading assessment Structured Literacy and Pathways to Proficient Writing. SALARY: Base salary per BWEA contract plus a $2500 stipend for work above and beyond the school day/year including an estimated 24 hours per month after school and up to 5 days during the summer at the discretion of the Assistant Superintendent. The curriculum rate will be paid for any RIDE coaching training sessions outside the contractual OF EMPLOYMENT: The K5 RI Reads Coach position is a fulltime teacher leader position with additional compensation for responsibilities outside the contractual school day/year. The RI Reads Coach must participate in coaching training in August and on additional days during the school year. The K8 Literacy Coordinator RIDE and the Assistant Superintendent will determine the coaching schedule. This coaching position is a twoyear commitment (202027) with the potential of two additional years (202029).
