Description
Summary
The Culinary Arts Credentialed Specialist uses professional knowledge to assist internal and external customers in exploring culinary literacy skills and support the use of the culinary literacy space. They plan programs and trainings to help internal and external customers participate in culinary literacy activities including trainings that lead to certification from organizations like ServSafe.
- Using library best practices and excellent customer service assists library customers of all ages in the use of library resources especially culinary literacy materials. Advises internal and external customers in the use of the culinary literacy space. Answers and/or facilitates customer reference questions.
- Promotes reading and lifelong learning by planning and conducting programs and presentations both in person and virtual audiences.
- Serves as an expert regarding library culinary literacy program needs working with supervisor to recommend new materials for culinary literacy programming.
- Troubleshoots customer concerns and facilities issues in the culinary literacy space.
- Remains current on trends in programs and culinary literacy needs.
- All other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Requirements
- ServSafe Training Basic Level required
- Hospitality Management Food Business Management Nutrition Consumer Science Dietetics or Culinary Arts degrees preferred.
- Associate Degree in Culinary Arts preferred. A combination of work experience and education may be substituted for degree.
- Certified ServSafe Manager Certification preferred.
- Nature of work requires an ability to effectively communicate and exchange information collect compile and prepare work documents and operate standard business office equipment.
- Travel throughout the county for programming/outreach is required with varying frequency.
- Majority of work is performed in a kitchen space or general office / library environment.
- Availability for extended or nontraditional hours as needed to perform job duties.
- Participation and attendance at promotional events and offsite meetings required.
- This position frequently requires squatting with a tray weighing up to 20 pounds regularly lifts 25 pounds and infrequently may lift something weighing 75 pounds.
- Commitment to service excellence.
- Knowledge of and high level of proficiency with culinary skills. This includes safe kitchen practices nutrition skills and teaching skills.
- Knowledge of social media best practices
- Analytic and problem solving abilities to determine appropriate responses based on a customers age needs and education.
- Understanding of how libraries engage and serve the communities they serve.
- Above average communication skills both written and verbal including public speaking skills.
- Organizational skills to keep all work current; excellent attention to detail.
- Proficiency in the use of Windows and Windowsbased software especially applications used by the Library.
Work Schedule
- Must be willing to work days evenings and Saturdays (rotating shifts).
- Must be willing to work at the various locations throughout our Mahoning County system.
- Fulltime hours are generally 40 hours per week. Parttime hours are generally 24 hours per week with the option to work additional hours possible.
- Travel to other library branches required occasionally.
- Availability for extended or nontraditional hours as needed to perform job duties. Participation and attendance at promotional events and offsite meetings may be required at managements discretion.
