Parttime Van Driver and Campus Monitor
Job Description
Van Driver to transport students to and from school using the school vans. The position will be approximately 2 hours in the morning (before school) and 2 hours in the afternoon (after school).
Minimum Requirements
- Three years driving experience in a vehicle other than a motorcycle.
- Current valid Arizona Drivers License
- Valid Identity Verified Print (IVP) Clearance Card
- Current First Aid and CPR certificates
- Speak read and write in English.
Van Driver Essential Functions
The list of essential functions is not exhaustive and may be supplemented.
- Ensures children are transported to and from school athletic events field trips and other school or District activities. Ensures all students are seated properly and seat belts are used.
- Determines if parent or guardian of children who must be met are at the destination point. Ensure students are delivered to proper dropoff points.
- Completes the van safety check off list (pretrip inspection) before driving van to ensure van is in proper working condition. Report repairs needed and add fluids as needed such as gas oil and water. Maintains daily log of van inspections.
- Cleans and sweeps the inside of van to include floor seats and side front and rear windows as requested.
- Washes the exterior of the bus as requested.
- Fuels van weekly.
- Transports children to and from school according to established schedule and route as assigned.
- Maintains discipline and order of children and other passengers while on the bus. Prepares student conduct reports as needed.
- Monitor the activities of Transportation (Van) Monitors as they relate to their work with students and the public as applicable.
- Operates a twoway radio to maintain contact with the dispatcher.
- Maintains logs of daily mileage to include regular routes and extra duty activity routes.
- Attends mandatory staff inservice training and training meetings.
- Maintain the highest level of professionalism
Van Driver Mental Tasks
Communicates comprehends and performs functions from written and oral instructions along with observing others.
Van Driver Daily Physical Tasks
- Work involves the performances of duties where considerable physical exertion is required as a normal part of the job.
- Assistance is normally available to perform unusually physically demanding tasks.
- Climbing stooping bending reaching walking and sitting for extended periods of time may be required as a normal part of the job.
- Employees must not have any limitations of motion vision and hearing as these senses should be rated as acceptable to obtain the required drivers license.
- Verbal communicative ability may be required of public contact positions.
School Campus Monitor patrols school campus and adjacent property to ensure security and pupil safety; supervise students on campus and at school activities and assist in the enforcement of rules and regulations.
School Campus Monitor Essential Functions
- Education and Experience: High school Diploma and at least one year of successful employment in education.
- Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules operating and maintenance instructions and manuals. Ability to write routine reports and business correspondence. Ability to effectively present and interface information with agencies employees of organizations and if needed to the public.
- Mathematical Skills: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts interest commissions proportions and percentages and apply basic algebra and geometry.
- Reasoning Skills: Ability to apply basic skills. Ability to carry out written oral or diagram instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Campus Monitor Daily Tasks
- Traffic control (before and after school)
- Outer perimeter check (1 per hour). Check for unlocked doors strange cars or suspicious activities around the buildings. Check for graffiti on the buildings and buses.
- Inner perimeter check (throughout the day). Check for students in hallways (must have a pass). Check for unlocked doors. Check on teachers and students in classrooms.
- Monitor assigned halls during passing periods.
- Search of student restrooms for contraband (before and after lunches).
- Assist with supervision of student lunches.
- Ensure all lights are turned off before end of shift.
Campus Monitor Weekly
- Student incident reports if needed.
- Report of security issues given to School and Operations Director.
Campus Monitor Monthly
- Ensure completion of fire drill.
Van Driver/Campus Monitor Working Conditions
- Exposure to noise.
- Exposure to dust gas and fumes.
- Contact with employees students and public.
- Exposure to all weather/climate conditions and temperature.
Summary
The Southgate Academy school Van Driver performs safety tasks for students as assigned by the Transportation Supervisor. The Southgate Academy school Campus Monitor performs safety tasks for students as assigned by the Safety Discipline Officer. Both positions works for and in conjunction with the Chief Academic Officer Transportation Supervisor and Safety Discipline Officer to ensure State and Local compliance is met. This may include but is not limited to other duties not listed in this job description but are aligned with the safety of the school campus.
