The City of Edmonton is seeking a dynamic and detailoriented Landscape Architectural Technologist I to join our Urban Planning and Economy department. In this role you will provide technical support for a variety of landscape architectural projects with a focus on the School Construction Accelerator Program and the review of detailed design drawings and concept plans for new parks. As a Landscape Architectural Technologist I you will be instrumental in providing technical expertise drafting and drawing review for landscape architectural projects. Your work will primarily involve supporting the School Construction Accelerator Program which involves the development of fit studies which reflect a high level spatial analysis of school and community parks to support planning and design of future school and community park sites. In addition this position will support the review of detailed design drawings and assess concept plans for new parks. You will collaborate with internal and external partners including school boards City subject matter experts consultants and developers to ensure project success. This role requires a strong understanding of open space policies landscape construction standards and proficiency in drafting software applications.
What will you do
- Develop fit studies and reports for new school community parks and district level parks including summarizing site requirements determining preliminary programs and completing graphic fit studies using AutoCAD
- Coordinate the circulation of fit studies and concept plans for new parks and consolidate comments from internal and external partners and collaborators
- Support the review of development permit submissions to ensure alignment with approved fit studies
- Support the review of engineering drawings and concept drawings for new parks in collaboration with the Landscape Architect
- Participate in multidisciplinary design meetings to represent open space interests
- Communicate effectively both written and verbally with external applicants
- Participate in team meetings and provide landscape architectural expertise and support to the Landscape Architect as required
- Convert and/or translate files to different formats for recordkeeping and coordination with other branches and outside sources
- 2 year diploma in Landscape Architectural Technology from a recognized institution post secondary technical school or community college
- 2 years of related landscape experience
Skills required for success:

- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with a client service focus for immediate and remote staff and business partners
- Coordination skills for developing and revising fit studies and park programming in collaboration with school boards
- Demonstrate thorough knowledge of design and drafting terminology practices and techniques aligning with industry standards
- Possess thorough and demonstrated knowledge of design and drafting principles and practices related to work assignments
- Experience with drafting software applications including programming and troubleshooting (Microstation AutoCAD Vectorworks etc.) and related design and drafting programs
- Proficiency in developing fit studies for park sites including compiling reports and confirming the spatial requirements for a variety of program needs and completing graphic designs (e.g. using AutoCAD)
- Skilled in reviewing Development Permit submissions to ensure alignment with approved concept plans
- Capability to participate in ongoing park development work including reviewing consultant proposals and attending design meetings
- Excellent time management skills and a high degree of organization
- Ability to work with diverse partners and collaborators circulate and revise fit studies and concept plans based on feedback including consolidating comments and preparing responses
- Research and analysis skills with the ability to provide detailed and accurate information in a timely manner tailored to the audience
- Clearly and effectively communicate verbally and in writing
- Demonstrated ability to achieve results in the context of a respectful inclusive and serviceminded style

Work Environment:
- Note:This position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement with the flexibility to work from both home and the worksite as per the Letter of Understanding between the City of Edmonton and Civic Service Union 52
- The weekly hours of work for this position are currently under review and may change at a future time. Any changes will be made in accordance with the City of Edmonton/Civic Service Union 52 collective agreement and the incumbent will be notified in advance
