Job Description

Title: Executive Director of Technology

Job Goal:

The Director of Technology is responsible for the strategic direction of all aspects of BPS instructional and information technology and systems including planning developing directing coordinating and maintaining instructional and administrative systems. They provide vision and leadership for developing and implementing IT initiatives and supporting BPS goals with emphasis on integrating technologybased teaching and learning in all classrooms.

Reports to: Superintendent of Schools

Supervises: Technology Integration Specialists Instructional Technology Assistants District Network Coordinator District Network Specialists Technology Facilitator

Qualifications:

  • Masters degree with an emphasis on computer science public or educational administration or related field;
  • Required certification through Massachusetts Educational Technology Administrators Association (METAA). Also recommend Certified Education Technology Leader (CETL) through Consortium for School Networking (CoSN);
  • Demonstrated experience in highlevel complex problem solving building leadership capacity managing and contributing to large scale organizational change;
  • Thorough knowledge of and practical experience in instructional and information technology required with experience in classroom teaching and educational administration desirable;
  • Experience with 1:1 learning environments;
  • Understanding and demonstration of clientcentered support and services.
  • Strong technical knowledge of Active Directory Microsoft Server operating systems with a cloudbased certification (Azure) preferred;
  • Recent experience working with multiple computer platforms multimedia technologies and instructional networks;
  • Knowledge and experience with chromebooks Google Workspace/Google Suite;
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the features of related hardware and software and their integration capabilities;
  • Knowledge and experience in current cybersecurity strategies;
  • Knowledge of State and Federal regulations regarding technology;
  • Experience in planning and developing technologybased solutions in educational settings;
  • Skilled at identifying and evaluating new technological developments;
  • Excellent organizational abilities;
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing;
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent or the School Committee may find appropriate and acceptable.

Performance Responsibilities (included but not limited to):

  1. Plans develops directs coordinates and maintains a technology infrastructure network and software programs. Supports the Districts commitment to using technology effectively and efficiently in an integrated manner for both instructional and administrative functions.
  2. Ensures school departments security of data with all information systems communication lines and equipment.
  3. Provides quality service to constituents in needs analysis solution recommendation vendor selection implementation training and postinstallation support.
  4. Recruits hires directs supervises and evaluates the performance of department members reporting to them. Ensures appropriate training programs for the department are in place and utilized.
  5. Participates as a member of the district leadership teams and serves as an advisor to the Superintendent on matters related to District Improvement Goals technology management planning procedures and policies. Advises on matters related to collective bargaining.
  6. Expands the technology capabilities to all levels of the Leadership Team to support more efficient and timely management of information via userfriendly access to school system data.
  7. Leads the technology planning process for BPS in a collaborative manner by focusing on both instructional and administrative use of technology.
  8. Reviews District hardware and software acquisition and maintenance contracts. Develops when possible master purchase or lease agreements for hardware software maintenance and telecommunication services including district cell phones and VOIP phone services.
  9. Prepares the technology portions of the BPS operating and capital budgets and presents budget proposals to the Superintendent and the School Committee for approval. Prioritizes and recommends which technology projects to include in the budget.
  10. Actively pursues grant opportunities to supplement Town appropriation in collaboration with the Grants Manager. Manages Erate funding available to the District.
  11. Manages outside associations with vendors outsourcing contractors and community partners and maintains knowledge of current technology equipment prices and terms of agreements.
  12. Researches technology management practices of other government agencies and school systems similar to/aligned with those of BPS and recommends improvements. Evaluates alternatives performs appropriate cost benefit analysis and recommends solutions in a fiscally responsible manner.
  13. Implements a ticketing system for technology related needs repairs and maintenance. Develops protocols to ensure tickets are completed in a timely manner and accurately.
  14. Implements daily system monitoring verifying the integrity and availability of all hardware server resources systems and processes. Reviews system and application logs verifies completion of scheduled jobs and takes a proactive approach to preventing system outages.
  15. Serves as first responder to emergency and after hour situations.
  16. Maintains a close working relationship with technology officials from other agencies in the Town of Barnstable Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education other school districts and government agencies and professional organizations.
  17. Serves as the point of contact for all instructional technology initiatives offered by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.
  18. Works with all Leadership Team members to integrate the use of instructional technologies into all programs at all grade levels.
  19. Collaborates with building principals and the Assistant Superintendent in the development and delivery of inservice training and activities specific to appropriate use of instructional technologies and the productive use of existing and new information systems.
  20. Manages the technology and technology support for all required testing including MCAS in collaboration with the Data and Accountability Analyst and the Assistant Superintendent.
  21. Maintains inventories of all instructional administrative and information hardware and software.
  22. Implements and updates the instructional technology plan to include assessment of implementation coordination of deployment of hardware software and peripherals mandated by the plan and assures that the plan is communicated effectively to all constituents.
  23. Provides technologies that make it easier for students families community organizations other government agencies and suppliers to do business with BPS as well as increase productivity and efficiency.
  24. Interacts with students families teachers staff management team and community organizations to ensure that systems are functioning appropriately. Speaks and acts on behalf of the Superintendent and District when interacting with public and community groups.
  25. Reads reports upon disseminates and discusses the trends and issues affecting the use of technologies in education.
  26. Perform other duties assigned by the Superintendent.

Job Environment:

Work is conducted in a typical school setting. Meetings are held in typical oce space. Has access to a great deal of condential information and must maintain confidentiality of student and staff information relative to federal and state laws and regulations. Must be able to communicate eectively in person over the phone and in writing.

Physical Requirements:

Light to moderate physical eort required to perform duties. Regular travel throughout the school

district.

Salary/Terms of Employment: Independently negotiated full year contract.
