POSITION SUMMARY:

A Special Education Instructional Coach/ Inclusion Specialist is a special education or general education teacher who provides coaching for teachers and staff around evidence based instructional practices inclusive practices and behavioral practices to ensure students are taught within the least restrictive environment.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Understanding of all federal state and local regulations for special education
  2. Expertise in evidence based practices and the ability to model and coach teachers in the use of evidence based practices within an inclusive/ collaborative environment.
  3. Collaborate with classroom teachers and staff to support students academic and social/emotional success within classrooms with their nondisabled peers.
  4. Collaborate with assigned students case managers classroom teachers assistants related service providers behavior specialists and school psychologists to develop appropriate interventions strategies.
  5. Demonstrate analytical understating of children learning processes and reading/math development
  6. Demonstrate a strong understanding of early literacy skills related to the science of reading
  7. Knowledge of systematic explicit reading interventions
  8. Model and advocate for strong data collection methods for progress monitoring IEPs
  9. Support Coteaching teams across the division
  10. Build positive and professional rapport with students and staff
  11. Practice confidentially
  12. Models professional moral and ethical standards as well as personal integrity in all interactions including nondiscriminatory and cultural inclusion practices by respecting the worth dignity and individual beliefs of others.
  13. Other duties deemed appropriate by supervisors

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. At least 5 years of experience as a teacher with experience teaching students with disabilities in an inclusive public school setting.
  2. Experience in the implementation of structured teaching practices or a willingness to be trained.
  3. Experience supporting students with complex/significant support needs in an inclusive environment.
  4. In good standing from previous position or division.
  5. Special Education or General Education Teaching License Masters preferred
  6. Related degrees/endorsements will be considered.
  7. Experience implementing evidencebased interventions.
  8. Experience working directly with individuals and families from diverse racial ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds.
  9. Familiarity with racial equity and inclusion frameworks.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS / WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Light work lifting up to 25 pounds occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds frequently. Regular travel throughout the school and effectively interact with students staff and community members. Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required for preparing and analyzing written or computer data determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work and observing general surroundings and activities; and subject to inside and outside environmental conditions. Regular contact with staff members is required. Not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions.

Performance will be evaluated in accordance with school board policy and administrative regulations on the evaluation of licensed personnel.
