WHAT YOULL BE DOING
Ensures Department needs are addressed on all project components including traffic safety transit operations traffic management transit management systems intelligent transportation systems transit facilities road maintenance and traffic design.
Coordinates on behalf of the Region with YRRTC Metrolinx and Infrastructure Ontario for the delivery of rapid transit capital projects.
Manages large and complex projects including Class Environmental Assessments design construction and commissioning to ensure compliance with the corporations requirements timing and budget.
Manages and coordinates multidisciplinary commissioning team to ensure infrastructure delivered to the Region is acceptable prior to inservice operation.
Works with the province Metrolinx Infrastructure Ontario and YRRTC to manage and coordinate completion of all items on the noncritical deficiency list between the Region and private sector partner for noncritical items.
Manages and coordinates the warranties associated with all project infrastructures to ensure any necessary repairs are completed and funded by the appropriate party.
Coordinates the capital works with those of local municipalities surrounding Regions YRRTC TTC Metrolinx senior levels of government and the private sector.
Participates in overall direction setting goals objectives policies and procedures for rapid transit projects.
Prepares and reviews detailed estimates of rapid transit project costs and assists with capital forecasts and reports.
Ensures the Regions interests are protected in contracts and arrangements with private and public sector parties.
Identifies and manages the implementation of process improvements for the rapid transit projects.
Supervises staff including recruitment selection hiring scheduling assigning work determining training and development needs coaching and mentoring conducting performance appraisals and determining/recommending disciplinary action up to and including dismissal in accordance with collective agreements Regional policies and practices.
Coordinates with the province Metrolinx Infrastructure Ontario and YRRTC staff to provide public information with respect to rapid transit projects being implemented in York Region.
Performs other duties as assigned to meet Departmental goals and program/service objectives.
WHAT WERE LOOKING FOR
Successful completion of a University Degree in Civil Engineering or related field or approved equivalent combination of education and experience.
Minimum five (5) years experience demonstrating significant success in leading and managing large transportation projects and minimum of two (2) years of direct supervisory experience.
Ability to travel to various offsite locations in a timely and efficient manner as required.
Demonstrated experience in successfully participating in complex partnership arrangements at senior levels with consortiums consultants private sector organizations and other delivery partners.
Demonstrated management experience leading a technical team including financial management business and financial planning contract and consultant management.
Demonstrated experience in participating in multidisciplinary and multi jurisdictional teams.
Thorough knowledge of road traffic and transit construction techniques.
Familiarity with transportation planning principles concepts practices methods and legislation within the GTA context and roles of different levels of government.
Demonstrated knowledge of transportation and environmental science traffic engineering traffic safety transit operations transit management systems roads planning and design standards.
Demonstrated ability in the Regions leadership and corporate core competencies.
Supervisory and human resource management skills knowledge of collective agreement administration and interpretation and labour relations principles and practices.
Computer literacy utilizing MS Office software applications and use of virtual platforms.
Ability to work outside regular hours as required.
