Job Description:

Position Purpose summary:

To assist in the operations of collecting and processing donations in the Food Recovery Program while practicing good stewardship of our donated resources. The student will serve local agencies and businesses sort incoming products and assist in Family Services operations.

Accountabilities:

Clean and repackage recovered food. Pick up and process donated resources by unloading sorting placing and loading donated items. Work with clients in food distribution. Contribute to the safety of staff and clients (e.g. clear fire exits no obstacles inside/outside the building clean spillage and assist in maintaining facility cleanliness). Take responsibility for accurately completing all client intake and recording into the system. Perform other duties as assigned.

MANAGERIAL/TECHNICAL LEADERSHIP RESPONSIBILITY:

  • Reports directly to: Corp Officer
  • Direct reports for this position: None

FINANCIAL AND MATERIALS MANAGEMENT:

  • Uses or maintains organization assets in accordance with established guidelines.
  • Does not process any financial transactions with no budget responsibilities.
  • Moderate material responsibility: proper storage handling and usage of food and supplies.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • 35 hours per week
  • Start Date: June 23rd 2025 End Date: August 22nd 2025

education and experience Qualifications:

Canada Summer Job Eligibility:

  • Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the beginning of the employment period
  • Be a Canadian citizen permanent resident or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment
  • Have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.

Education Qualifications and Certifications:

  • Completion of a high school diploma

Experience and Skilled Knowledge Requirements

  • Up to three (3) months of prior experience including life skills.

Skills and Capabilities (examples provided below):

  • Heavy lifting: able to lift up to 40 pounds repeatedly without assistance from others.
  • Valid Full Drivers License
  • Ability to stand for long periods.
  • Must be able to work cooperatively with others.
  • Demonstrate organizational skills ability to communicate verbally and in writing effectively.
  • Good listening interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Selfmotivated and disciplined.
  • Demonstrates ability to work with agencies peers staff and volunteers.
  • Ability and willingness to undergo applicable screening and background checks successfully that are satisfactory to The Salvation Army in its sole discretion (i.e. The Salvation Army Abuse Registry vulnerable sector check).

Compensation:

The target hiring range for this position is $17.85 to $21.66 with a maximum of $25.99.

Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions internal equity and candidate experience skills and qualifications relevant to the role.
