Responsibilities

  • Coordinate with process team directors and scientific leads to ensure laboratories are properly equipped to perform desired research and development.
  • Create and maintain Process equipment usage guidance documents (e.g. department wikis and/or formal reference documents and SOPs).
  • Provide oversight of acquisition process and installation of capital equipment.
  • Train and/or coordinate the training of Process laboratory personnel on proper equipment use and troubleshooting.
  • Maintain realtime equipment readiness database to ensure laboratory assets are fully available for material generation data analysis and/or development studies:
    • Work with VPPL Scientific Operations/Technical Services (SciOps/TS) group and external vendors (if needed) to ensure laboratory equipment is properly maintained.
    • Establish Preventative Maintenance (PM) schedule/calendar of all Processspecific equipment.
  • Act as liaison with VPP SciOps/TS group on Process department related matters (e.g. POC for Request for Vendor Services RVS forms provide supporting materials and any onsite support for service calls):
    • Coordinate with Process team to complete necessary paperwork (RVS SSJ/JOFOCS service contracts) to enable procurement and/or service requests.
    • Coordinate vendor visits and arrange SME/chaperone as needed.
    • Responsible for monitoring inventory levels and modeling usage projections and recommending the ordering of commonuse material.
  • Lead coordination efforts on and implementation of Materials/Supply systems within the Process Team laboratories:
    • Streamline consumable acquisition/storage/retrieval systems (e.g. implementing KANBAN or equivalent) to ensure lab has inventory visibility.
    • Manage inventories of equipmentspecific consumables (Wave/SUB bags AMBR NOVA supplies Applikon filters tubing).
    • Provide oversight of buffer prep chemical and media supply levels working with end users to project usage and maintain inventory.
  • Serve as safety committee process team liaison (for the purpose of communicationrelated role not safety policy enforcement).
  • Act as department resource on proper waste disposal identify where training is needed (e.g. burn box use and disposal sharps containers eyewash station PPE availability) and coordinate with the VPPL Safety Officer as needed.
  • Prepare and establish a Department Specific Equipment Training Protocol for bridging OntheJob (OJT) training requirements with proper execution and documentation. (may include incorporation into the Electronic Document Management System EDMS).
  • Coordinate with SciOps/TS on cleaning schedules for support equipment (BSC fridges/freezers). Provide vision for lab organizational efforts and lead implementation of 5S initiatives by identifying critical initiatives and directing team efforts of all workstation supplies and consumables storage for labs.
  • Perform material generation runs in the downstream process development laboratory to support critical project milestones toward INDfiling efforts such as toxicology study and/or reference standard materials.
  • Provide services in support of VPPL in its contributions towards pursuing the VRC mission.

Qualifications

  • M.S. degree in Biochemistry Chemistry or related Life Science is required.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in biopharma/process development environment.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience in laboratory operations management capacity.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Strong communication skills.

  • Will be required to be in contact with lasers in instrument andwork with corrosive substances inorganic dust and powders heavy metals plastics solvents and sensitizing agents.
  • Must be able to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) including gloves face shields/goggles safety glasses safety shoes lab coat and disposable dust/surgical mask.
