SUMMARY

The Library Aide works under the direction of the Librarian to assist with various tasks that ensure the librarys smooth operation. The Library Aide maintains cooperative working relationships with the Librarian students teachers staff and parents through meaningful and supportive communication.

A Bishop Lynch faculty member is responsible for the implementation of the goals of Catholic education as outlined in The Holy Sees Teaching on Catholic Schools (Archbishop Michael Miller):

JOB OVERVIEW

The Library Aide will support the School Librarian in maintaining the efficient operation of the high school library. This role involves assisting students faculty and staff in using library resources organizing materials and ensuring a welcoming and orderly environment. The Library Aide will also help in managing circulation maintaining records and supporting educational activities.

JOB EXPECTATIONS

Customer Service: Assist students and staff in locating and checking out library resources including books digital media and other materials.

Organization: Help ensure that library books materials and resources are properly shelved organized and cataloged according to library systems.

  • Circulation Support: Help manage the checkout and return of books and other library resources. Help monitor overdue items and assist with inventory control.
  • Library Maintenance: Help keep the library space clean and organized. Straighten shelves clear tables and ensure study areas are tidy.
  • Technology Assistance: Assist with basic support for students and staff in using library computers digital resources and educational technologies.
  • Assistance with Library Programs: Assist in organizing and facilitating special library events workshops and projects.
  • Support for Library Technology: Operate libraryrelated software including catalog systems digital resources and tracking tools.
  • Student Supervision: Supervise students using the library ensuring appropriate behavior and safety.

SKILLS REQUIRED

  • Organizational Skills: Strong ability to maintain an organized neat and efficient library environment.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills to interact with students faculty and staff effectively.
  • Customer Service: Friendly approachable and able to assist a diverse group of students teachers and staff with their library needs.
  • Attention to Detail: Ability to accurately catalog organize and manage library materials and records.
  • Technology Proficiency: Comfort with using (or learning) library management systems word processing and other software tools.
  • Multitasking Ability: Capable of handling multiple tasks simultaneously including assisting students organizing materials and supporting library programs.
  • ProblemSolving Skills: Ability to handle issues or concerns with students resources or technology in a calm and effective manner.
  • Collaboration: Ability to work effectively as part of a team with library staff teachers and students.
  • Adaptability: Willingness to adapt to changing needs and tasks in a dynamic educational environment.

PREFERRED

  • High school diploma or equivalent; additional education or certification in library science or a related field is a plus.
  • Prior experience in a library or customer service setting is preferred but not required.
