TITLE: K5 Library AideREPORTS TO: Library Media Specialists Building PrincipalsPOSITION DESCRIPTION: Under the supervision and direction of the Library Media Specialists (hereafter noted as LMS) the Library Aide serves all three elementary schools in Concord by assisting in maintaining a wellorganized smoothly functioning library that provides teachers staff and students with the help required to fully utilize library services and resources. The upkeep of materials and records provided by the Library Aide allows the LMS to focus on teaching the children and running the library RESPONSIBILITIES: Patron Services (students and teachers)Provides a welcoming productive positive experience for library patrons volunteers and visitorsAssists students and staff in finding literature and print/nonprint reference materialUpdates student patron records at the beginning of each year and maintains them throughout the year and creates patron records for all staff and volunteersAssists LMS in developing subject book lists for teachers and in gathering materials for special curriculum unitsOrders fills requests for and tracks interlibrary loan materialsCollection Development and MaintenanceProcesses new materials acquired through book orders and miscellaneous donations throughout the yearCreates and maintains cataloging records under the supervision of the LMS (enters and updates MARC records for all new items; uses Destiny database to create catalog records for uncataloged materials; creates original cataloging as needed using standard MARC format; provides covers barcode labels spine labels)Repairs library materials and assists in the weeding processAssists in the preparation and receipt of ordersConducts periodic inventories of the collectionMakes suggestions for additions to the collection based on records of lost and withdrawn books and requests from students and teachersFacility OperationsOversees circulation procedures while the LMS is fulfilling instructional duties Maintains and monitors shelves for order and cleanlinessPrepares overdue notices and bills and collects and deposits funds for lost materialsReshelves materials picks up after library classes and restocks suppliesHelps to create signage book displays and bulletin boardsPrepares statistical reports for LMSPrepares purchase requisitions for library books and equipment from vendors as requested by LMS following orders through receipt and invoice payment following district accounting policies Maintains the procedures manualTechnologyOperates cataloging system (currently Destiny)Distributes and troubleshoots AV equipment performs minor repairs when possible and withdraws equipment from the collectionAttends training classes pertinent to dutiesLibrary Program SupportProvides substitute teaching support when LMS is absent from teaching dutiesMonitors student behavior and assists LMS during instruction when necessaryTrains and oversees parent volunteersCopies and prepares class materials when requestedSKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:College degreeLibrary experience preferredExperience in an elementary school preferredFamiliarity with technology and experience using 21st century applications
