Job Description

Education: Masters degree or equivalent teaching experience plus 3 years of successful classroom teaching experience.

Job Goal: Elementary literacy specialists will work closely with their building principal instructional design coach classroom teachers and MTSS team to ensure the effective implementation of our multitiered system of literacy instruction.

Essential duties and responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following:

  • Attend elementary literacy specialist ongoing professional learning sessions as scheduled.
  • As part of the MTSS team implement district data monitoring and meeting recording procedures.
  • In cooperation with building level leadership attend building grade level PLCs to review data and participate in discussions/planning for tier 1 instruction.
  • In cooperation with the building level leadership facilitate problem solving discussions during grade level PLCs for whole/small group instruction reteaching or intervention.
  • In cooperation with the building level leadership complete diagnostics when student evidence indicates a skill gap exists.
  • Provide literacy interventions as determined by data with priority to kindergarten through grade 2.
  • Manage intervention information (goals progress monitoring etc) in Panorama and Star Renaissance for students receiving interventions.

Work Environment and Physical Demands:While performing the duties of this job the employee is frequently required to sit; occasionally walk and stand. The ability to hear and see in order to communicate effectively as well as communicate clearly and concisely both orally and in writing; Maintain effective audio/visual discrimination and perception to the degree necessary for the successful performance of assigned duties; Maintain mental capacity allowing for effective interaction and communication with others.

Terms of Employment: 188 days contract


Evaluation: By the Building Principal at least twice each year in the first three years of service (December 15 & April 15) and at least once each year thereafter (April 15).
