Wilmington Middle School provides a diverse education to approximately 700 in grades 68. We are currently looking for an instructional leader to join our community of educators in the role of Assistant Principal. The ideal candidate must understand and embrace the middle school philosophy as well as the middle school student. The responsibilities of the Assistant Principal include but are not limited to:Instructional LeadershipAssist staff in implementing Tier 1 instructional practices support students academic social and emotional developmentAssist principal by providing leadership in the delivery of instruction including but not limited to observation of teachers coaching in methods of instruction and formal evaluationAttend special education and 504 meetings to support the development of plans that support student learningAssist principal in the use and dissemination of pertinent student data to inform teacher practiceManagement and Operations Collaborate with an administrative team to develop and implement disciplinary procedures and guidelines which will foster a safe learning environmentTo participate in and/or lead meetings related to students emerging or special needs or other difficultiesCollaborate closely with teachers to recommend and assist with behavior modifications strategies in the classroomWork with students regarding discipline and attendance issues and make appropriate referralsAssist in the recruitment and hiring of staffAssist principal in building annual school budgetsAssist in the development of the master schedule common planning time and duty scheduleAttend afterschool activities and chaperone out of town field trips when appropriateWork with the building Principal in the development of student schedulesFamily and Community EngagementsFoster positive collaborative relationships with students and families to ensure student successDevelop working relationships with outside agencies and service providersProfessional CultureFacilitate team department staff or professional development meetings when necessaryEffectively communicate school mission and visionEngage in professional learning community protocols when appropriateCoordinate the orientation of new teachers substitute teachers and student teachersMaintain an active program of personal professional growth through coursework workshops seminars conferences and professional AttributesAbility to apply knowledge of Positive Behavior Intervention Systems (PBIS) in a middle school settingKnowledge of tiered intervention practices and expertise in maintaining a positive classroom culture as an essential Tier 1 practiceLeadership and management skillsHigh level communication and interpersonal skillsA commitment to collaborative practice within a professional learning communityA strong focus on best practice in teaching learning and assessmentDetail oriented and good followthroughAbility to collaborate and build strong connections with families and community membersDemonstrate strong cultural competencies and awareness practices to overcome barriers to student successStrong organizational skills and ability to prioritize effectivelyCommitment to equity and providing high quality educational experiences for all of MCAS procedures and protocolsKnowledge and experience utilizing Aspen Student Information System
