Job Description:

Work under the supervision of the Creative Services Coordinator. This is skilled work in the preparation of design layout and artwork for Hinds Community College. The work involves using techniques best suited to produce desired visual effects in conformance with printing methods specified or types of media being utilized. Must be able to operate programs or equipment to create illustrations drawings and printed materials including the Student Handbook brochures catalogs marketing and recruiting pieces etc. Must maintain college brand guidelines & standards.

GENERAL STATEMENT OF THE FUNCTION

The graphic specialist position as part of the Marketing & Communications (M&C) department is one of a team who provide marketing advertising and communication services for Hinds Community College. The Graphic Specialist works in the preparation of design layout and artwork for the College. The work involves operating equipment to create art and layouts for printing or other media formats for official college publications and collaterals; involves knowledgeable use of graphic software including Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign Photoshop Illustrator Acrobat) and Microsoft Office 365 to produce the desired visual outcomes in conformance with printing and production methods specified.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

Associates degree (A.A.) or equivalent from twoyear college or technical school; and at least one year related experience and/or training. Must be proficient on the Macintosh computer using graphic software such as Adobe Creative Suite InDesign Photoshop and Illustrator Adobe Acrobat Microsoft Office and others. Graduated from a standard fouryear high school or equivalent (GED) related education and related experience may be substituted on an equal basis.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.

  • Associates degree (AA) or equivalent from twoyear College or technical school; and oneyear related experience in graphic design.
  • Must be proficient on a Macintosh computer utilizing Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign Photoshop/Illustrator).
  • Must also have the ability to use Microsoft Office Suite applications.
  • Experience in copy writing and publications productions.
  • An understanding of marketing tactics.
  • Must have excellent communication skills to collaborate with team members and clients.
  • Graduated from a standard fouryear high school or equivalent (GED) related education and related experience may be substituted on an equal basis.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Maintain knowledge of diversityrelated issues legislation and best practices.

  • Proficient skills on the Macintosh operating system using graphic software such as Adobe Creative Cloud applications (InDesign Photoshop Illustrator Acrobat etc.) Microsoft Office applications and others.
  • Operates Macintosh computer scanners and/or copiers to create illustrations drawings and layouts for printing or other media formats.
  • Prepares clear complete and accurate layouts from rough concepts provided
  • Designs type and graphic elements for business cards letterhead envelopes covers books brochures banners advertisements posters programs forms maps reports etc.
  • Ensures clear complete and accurate type from draft copy provided.
  • Establish appropriate timelines for each project and maintain status documentation; works to meet deadlines.
  • Create layouts and designs for collaterals and publications.
  • Must be able to maintain backup files organized and easily accessible.
  • Ensure that all design elements meet the standards established in the official brand guidelines (Identity Standards) of the college.
  • Performs related or similar duties as required or assigned.
  • Must communicate effectively with clients to fulfill project assignments as requested.
  • Must collaborate with M&C team members to benefit from their input and skills and fulfill project assignments as requested.
