Job Description

The following vacancy exists in Goshen Community Schools for the202425school year:

Elkhart County Special Education Cooperative

Behavioral/Autism Consultant

The Elkhart County Special Education Cooperative (ECSEC) is made up of the Baugo

Concord Fairfield Goshen Middlebury and WaNee Community Schools in North Central Indiana located 30 minutes from the University of Notre Dame. Administrative offices are located at1216 S. IndianaAvenue Goshen IN 46526.

POSITION PURPOSE: Responsible for training and consultation activities to support classrooms using evidencebased strategies. Assistance with students on the autism spectrum from ages 322. Provide strategies and interventions to assist individuals in achieving more effective personal social education development and adjustment by performing the following duties:

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily.

  • Conduct individual and group instruction related to psychoeducational social skills on identified areas of concern of students.
  • Serve as a resource to teacher and other school personnel on intervention strategies and behavioral management techniques.
  • Connect parents and school personnel with community resources as appropriate.
  • Conduct systematic observations for students referred for behavior consultation.
  • Consult with school personnel to provide effective strategies and intervention to assist the student to achieve personal social and emotional growth.
  • Conduct diagnostic evaluations to assist the multidisciplinary assessment team when considering student eligibility for an Emotional Disability.
  • Work collaboratively with students parents school staff and outside agency personnel.
  • Establish communication and positive connections between the student parent/guardian and school personnel while maintaining professional boundaries.
  • Provide ongoing professional development for educational staff as required.
  • Conduct Functional Behavior Assessments and develop Positive Intervention Plans.
  • Participate annually in training for Nonviolent Crisis Intervention /Physical Restraint/Seclusion.
  • Attend and participate in meetings committees and professional development activities as assigned.
  • As part of multidisciplinary team participate in ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder) evaluation of students referred. Duties include as best practice 3 observations in different school settings social/developmental interview with parents rating scales teacher interview ADOS (Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule) if necessary.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings sharing all information gathered. Understand eligibilities for Autism Aspergers Syndrome and Pervasive Developmental Disorders. Attend and participate in initial case conferences.
  • Participate in case conferences of identified ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder) students assisting in writing goals objectives behavior plans supplemental program modifications accommodations or supports to make progress toward goals. Working knowledge of internetbased IEP (Individuals Education Plan) program.
  • Develop and Implement professional development for various audiences including evidencebased practices. Include the occupational therapist behavior resource autism consultant in developing/sharing strategies in the areas of sensory social behavior organization and academics.
  • Attend inservices workshops conferences and Autism Roundtable to remain current and gain new knowledge about best practices with ASD students.
  • Other duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor.

REQUIREMENTS: Appropriate certification as required by the Indiana Department of Education or one of the following:

  • Masters in Social Work Licensed Clinical Social Worker Licensed Mental Health Counselor or Bachelors in Social Work with a minimum of 3 years of school experience
    • MSW applicant if hired would need to obtain LCSW licensure within 3 years)
  • Three to Five years of experience in School or Mental Health Setting Preferred.
  • Valid Indiana Professional Educators License in the appropriate subject area and/or grade level(s)
  • ABA (AppliedBehavioral Analysis) licensure preferred.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Demonstrate exemplary verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and timely with students parents school staff and outside agency personnel.
  • Demonstrate exemplary ability to observe and analyze behavior; assess the function of the behavior and generate a Positive Behavior Intervention Plan.
  • Ability to prioritize duties and manage schedule to effectively perform job duties.
  • Prepare and maintain current and accurate records.
  • Participate annually in training for Nonviolent Crisis Intervention/Physical Restraint
  • Proficient in utilizing computer software.
  • Understanding of Special Education policies procedures and practices for children and youth with disabilities; ages 3 to 22.
  • Understanding of identification assessment and educational/programming needs of students with ASD.
  • Knowledge about classroom strategies including databased and evidencebased instructional practices specific to ASD.
  • Ability to communicate and present or provide training to a variety of audiences.
  • Ability to promote working relationships among administrators general education teachers paraprofessionals special education teachers speech/language pathologists in supporting ASD students.
  • Experience in special education and specific experience with schoolage learners with autism spectrum disorders.
  • Other qualifications that the Governing Council may require.

HOURS:School year 184 days per year; 40 hours per week;Daily hours (7:30 am to 3:30 pm)

SALARY:Rate is dependent upon education and experience. (Schedule #251A)
