PRIMARY PURPOSE: To keep all vehicles in operative condition for the safe transport of school children and employees of the school district.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education / Certification:
- Must possess Valid Class BCDL (Commercial Drivers License)
- P and S endorsements preferred
- ASE Masters certification or equivalent preferred
- Texas School Bus Drivers Certification
Special Knowledge/Skills/Requirements:
- Must be 18 years of age
- Must be able to follow verbal instruction
- Must have an acceptable driving record according to Texas Education Agency standards
- Must have knowledge of vehicle maintenance and repair
- Demonstrate competence and willingness to perform required tasks
- Three or more years of experience in bus maintenance and repair preferred
- Pass a preemployment DOT drug test and physical
- Computer literacy and proficiency using fleet maintenance software
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
- Supervise technicians and other employees assigned to the shop.
- Supervise shop operations.
- Supervise other department personnel as needed.
- Direct shop personnel to repair and maintain all automotive equipment.
- Assist in mechanical problems and works with bus drivers and their equipment.
- Check for proper fluid level in all units daily.
- Keep tools and shop clean and neat.
- Assist District Fleet Manager by advising most economical repair of equipment.
- Report for work and stay on the job eight hours per day unless emergency arises which requires additional duty as instructed by the director.
- Assist in other areas of transportation department as time allows.
- Keep records of repairs and schedules of maintenance required on all equipment.
- Develop supervise and maintain a safety program for all employees assigned to the shop.
- Maintain parts supply and keep parts room neat and clean.
- Maintain an inventory of all parts tools equipment and supplies.
- Participate in interviewing all prospective shop employees and make recommendations for hire.
- Develop and recommend procedures for orderly replacement of existing movable equipment as it becomes obsolete or deteriorates.
- Lift or assist in lifting equipment tools and supplies as required in daily assignment. (25 lbs. or more).
- Recommend and make purchases of equipment and supplies as needed for transportation operations.
- Actively participate in the Safe Driver Review process for postaccident determinations.
- Assist Director and Assistant Director in accident investigations.
- Assist District Fleet Manager with evaluation of software efficiency.
- Train technicians and other employees in safe use of shop equipment prior to use.
- Display tolerance necessary for accepting supervision for and criticism of job performance.
- Work in harmony with supervisory faculty and peer personnel.
- Use professional information discreetly and judiciously.
- Support and follow administrative and board policy.
- Represent the school system to the community in a positive professional way.
- Maintain a sincere friendly attitude toward patrons.
- Perform other duties as assigned by Director of Transportation.
