POSITION: DIRECTOR MATHEMATICS AND COMPUTER SCIENCE EDUCATION PK12
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Valid licensure as a mathematics teacher in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts
- Valid licensure as a Supervisor/Director in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts
- Masters Degree preferably in mathematics or mathematics education
- A minimum of five years teaching experience in mathematics
- Demonstrated skill in curriculum planning implementation and assessment and Massachusetts Mathematics Common Core standards
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent may find appropriate and acceptable
REPORTS TO: The Deputy Superintendent for Teaching & Learning
SUPERVISES: The Director is responsible for supervising the mathematics and computer science program in grades K5. The Director also supervises and evaluates teachers of mathematics and computer science in Grades 612.
JOB GOAL: To communicate the school systems instructional objectives for mathematics and computer science and to provide leadership program management staff supervision and evaluation of the total mathematics and computer science program. Teaching duties may be as much as 0.20.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Plan implement and assess all phases of a comprehensive clearly articulated mathematics program K12.
- Develop criteria for selection and recommended purchase of current standardsbased mathematics instructional materials. Monitor and evaluate implementation of curriculum.
- Develop program objectives K12 based on the Mathematics Common Core and District goals. Implement effective tiered intervention programs at all levels in mathematics.
- Direct the development and publication of all curriculum documents aligned to the State Standards and related assessments (MCAS etc).
- Interpret MCAS Scores and other test scores in mathematics and make recommendations for curriculum improvement and professional development for teachers and the community.
- Organize ongoing staff development programs for elementary classroom teachers and members of the Mathematics Department grades 612.
- Plan programs in conjunction with principals director colleagues and the administration.
- Integrate technology into the curriculum and instruction of mathematics and support STEM education.
- Partner with principals in guiding and supporting the implementation of effective mathematics content and pedagogy in all schools for all students.
- Serve on school and districtbased committees relevant to the implementation of effective mathematics content and pedagogy.
- Prepare and administer a budget grants or other sources of funding and assist principals in the development of each schools budget as it pertains to mathematics and computer science.
- Administer grantfunded projects for instructional materials staff development curriculum development and new assessment practices.
- Recruit screen interview and recommend (in conjunction with the principals) a highly qualified and diverse pool of candidates to the Superintendent.
- Supervise and evaluate members of the Mathematics Department including Computer Science teachers and coaches.
- Serve as active liaison to organizations involved in improving mathematics education e.g. TERC EDC NCTM PALMS local colleges centers for technology education etc.
- Participate in all administrative meetings as required by the district.
- Lead districtwide initiatives surrounding adjustments to curriculum revisions or pathways including the community and educators in inclusive processes.
- Keep current with the latest developments in mathematics education and recommend and assess changes in our instructional program.
- Partner with students educators leaders staff families community members and others to ensure programming meets the needs of all learners.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by the Deputy Superintendent of Teaching and Learning and the Superintendent.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 205 Days. Position is covered by the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the Arlington School Committee and the Arlington Administrators Association
