Job Description:
Position Purpose summary:
The Chaplain/Volunteer Coordinator is a member of the Executive Management Team and is responsible to:
- Provide a Spiritual and Pastoral Care Program for Residents and Staff Members
- Recruit screen orientate oversee and coordinate volunteers in supporting MMCs mission
ACCOUNTABILITIES
Pastoral Care
- Give oversight to the Spiritual Care program ensuring that all residents are given the option of spiritual care in their individual program plan.
- Conduct Bible studies devotions chapel services etc.
- Develop and maintain MMCs Spiritual Care Plan.
- Set goals and objectives for spiritual care.
- Develop and maintain Spiritual Care policies and procedures.
- Provide spiritual care and crisis support as requested by residents staff and volunteers.
- Provide spiritual care training for staff as required.
- Maintain spiritual care records according to Accreditation standards.
- Keep and record statistics as required and provide reports for management.
- Facilitate and promote residents attendance at Church.
- Link with The Salvation Army and other community churches and organizations for the purpose of promoting pastoral care for residents.
- Ability to work with people from all religions and provide spiritual guidance accordingly.
- Obtain and distribute Christian literature and publications.
- Conduct community outings for residents in the local area.
Volunteer Coordination
- Develop coordinate and maintain a Volunteer Program to assist in fulfilling MMCs mission.
- Recruit screen schedule and supervise volunteers.
- Assist in the preparation of material to use for volunteer recruitment.
- Give oversight to activities that promote the appreciation of volunteers.
- Maintain and report statistics.
ORGANIZATIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Participate in management team meetings staff meetings counsellor/HW meetings resident review meetings staff training etc as required.
- Adhere to Code of Ethics Confidentiality Statement Policies and Procedures Manual (ER) Toronto Hostel Standards.
- Comply with the provisions of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations and MMCs Health and Safety Program.
- Participate in planning developing and executing strategic initiatives for the agency.
- Assist with planning and policy evaluation as required and assist to update and maintain a current policy manual.
CRITICAL RELATIONSHIP MANAGEMENT
- Internal: THHS Staff DHQ/ THQ Staff
- External: Establish and maintain good working relationships with external agencies to make the appropriate referrals Vendors/ Suppliers Contractors
MANAGERIAL/Technical Leadership RESPONSIBILITY:
- Reports directly to: Director
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- This is permanent fulltime position based on 40 hours per week.
- Works in a shelter environment
- There may be frequent interruptions and multitasking
- Equipment and general office noise (i.e. people talking phones ringing)
- May interact with clients with erratic/aggressive behaviors
- May deal with angry and/or abusive people
- May deal with verbal abuse

WORK ENVIRONMENT
The incumbents work environment is typically in the entire facility and surrounding property designated.
The Incumbent will work under the following disagreeable conditions:
- May interact with clients with erratic/aggressive behaviours
- May deal with angry and/or abusive people
- May deal with verbal abuse
- Odours
- May deal with bodily fluids
- May encounter sharps safe drug supplies
- May deal with onsite pest infestations (bed bugs etc)
EXPOSURE TO HAZARDS
The incumbent may be exposed to the risk of moderate to severe injury or illness due to:
- Physical attacks by others
- Exposure to infectious diseases
- Exposure to toxic chemicals
- Moving Objects
- Sharp Objects (i.e. needle pricks)
- Electrical Hazards
- Repetitive strain injuries (e.g. back wrist)
PRECAUTIONARY MEASURES
The incumbent must take the following precautionary measures (in addition to health and safety rules):
- Universal precautions
- Use gloves
- Use ear/eye protection
- Eye wash stations
- Fume masks where appropriate
- Appropriate face mask (either medical or N95 and would be based on IPAC protocols)
HEALTH AND SAFETY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Comply with the provisions of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations
- Adhere to the agencys Health and Safety Program
- Report accidents/injuries/workplace hazards in a timely manner
- Conduct facility security/safety rounds on a regular basis according to policy
- Adhere to all Health and Safety Policies of the agency
education and experience Qualifications:
Education Qualifications and Certifications:
- Commissioned Salvation Army officer or member of the Clergy as approved by The Salvation Army
- Demonstrated strong organization skills
- Christian counselling experience
- Ability to deal with men in crisis
- Excellent written and oral skills
Experience and Skilled Knowledge Requirements:
- Preferably 2 years of experience in a similar role
Compensation:
The target hiring range for this position is $55693.49 to $69616.86 with a maximum of $83540.23.
Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions internal equity and candidate experience skills and qualifications relevant to the role.
