We are seeking a highly knowledgeable and experienced Subject Matter Expert (SME) in Seats to provide technical leadership guidance and strategic input across product development design testing manufacturing and certification activities. The SME will be responsible for ensuring seat systems meet functional ergonomic safety regulatory and quality standards while supporting crossfunctional teams in project execution.
- Act as the technical authority for all aspects related to seat design development validation and production.
- Provide expert knowledge on seat structure mechanisms materials comfort durability and crash performance.
- Review and approve seat designs specifications testing protocols and supplier deliverables.
- Ensure compliance with applicable industry standards and regulations (e.g. FMVSS ECE R17 AS8049 TSOC127 depending on industry).
- Collaborate with engineering manufacturing quality procurement and program management teams.
- Lead technical problemsolving for seatrelated issues across the product lifecycle.
- Support supplier selection auditing and technical assessments.
- Drive innovation in seat technologies (lightweight structures new materials safety enhancements occupant comfort features etc.).
- Author and maintain technical documentation standards and best practices related to seats.
- Mentor and train junior engineers and design teams on seat engineering fundamentals.
- Participate in customer meetings regulatory reviews and certification processes when needed.
Requirements
- Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering Aerospace Engineering Industrial Design or a related field (Master s degree preferred).
- 10 years of experience specifically in seat engineering design testing or manufacturing.
- Deep understanding of seat systems occupant safety requirements and ergonomic principles.
- Familiarity with relevant CAD tools simulation software (e.g. CATIA NX ANSYS) and product lifecycle management (PLM) systems.
- Knowledge of materials (metal composites foams fabrics) used in seating applications.
- Experience with regulatory compliance and certification processes.
- Strong analytical communication and leadership skills.
Preferred:
- Experience with both traditional and innovative seat manufacturing methods (e.g. additive manufacturing composite molding).
- Previous involvement in crash testing or dynamic testing of seats.
- Exposure to program/project management tools and methodologies (e.g. Agile APQP).
- International experience or familiarity with global regulations and standards.
