Job Description

SEN Teaching Assistant


Are you enthusiastic about making a positive impact on the lives of young individuals with Special Educational Needs (SEN)

Whether you are a seasoned SEN Teaching Assistant or a recent graduate aiming to acquire practical experience in the field of education this position presents an excellent opportunity to enhance your abilities and advance in the SEN sector.

Key Duties:

  • Providing support to students individually and in small groups within primary secondary or college environments.
  • Assisting students with ASD ADHD SEMH and other learning challenges by delivering personalized assistance.
  • Collaborating with educators to modify lessons to meet specific requirements utilizing PECS Makaton and sensorybased learning.
  • Facilitating the development of confidence independence and social skills in students through structured interventions.
  • Implementing behavior management techniques and offering emotional support as necessary.
  • Working in partnership with teachers SENCOs and therapists to establish a nurturing learning atmosphere.
  • Promoting inclusion and engagement to ensure all students have equal access to educational opportunities.
Desired Candidate:

  • Graduates in Psychology Education SEN Social Work or related disciplines seeking practical experience.
  • Experienced Teaching Assistants Youth Workers or Support Workers with a strong interest in SEN.
  • Possessing a patient empathetic and proactive approach to working with children and young individuals.
  • Familiarity or experience with SEN strategies like PECS Makaton Team Teach or deescalation techniques (preferred but not mandatory).
  • Willingness to learn and engage in continuous professional development and training.

Requirements

Requirements:
  • Relevant degree or equivalent experience in the field.
  • Certification in SEN strategies is a plus.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Patience empathy and a proactive attitude towards supporting individuals with SEN.

Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification, Safeguarding and Child Protection Training, Team Teach or MAPA training, Level 2/3 Certificate in Understanding Autism, Challenging Behaviour, or SEND, Mental Health or Wellbeing Training
