Job Description
We have an opening for a Signal and Image Processing Engineer within the Computational Engineering Division (CED). You will perform algorithm research development and implementation in the signal and image sciences. You will be responsible for the development and implementation of signal and image processing algorithms in software and/or hardware in support of Laboratory programs. Specific topics of interest include but are not limited to state estimation and multi target tracking; embedded systems for digital signal processing image and video processing; machine learning; pattern analysis; control system design and analysis; communications and radar systems; nondestructive evaluation techniques; remote sensing; and similar topics associated with the signal and image sciences.
Depending on your assignment this position may offer a hybrid schedule blending inperson and virtual presence. You may have the flexibility to work from home one or more days per week.
In this role you will
- Contribute to the fulfillment of project and organizational goals by providing input on technical issues for specific projects recommending improvements new ideas and/or modifications as appropriate and exploring a variety of approaches within generally established methods to support direction and decisions made by self team management and/or external customers.
- Research develop and apply solutions to moderately complex to complex level problems in the signal and image sciences that are of programmatic interest.
- Work both independently and collaboratively in multidisciplinary team environments to contribute to the accomplishment of research and analysis goals and maintain a close interface with programmatic and project elements to ensure effective teamwork.
- Implement algorithms in software and/or hardware as appropriate and assist with problem formulations and analysis approaches.
- Document disseminate present and explain efforts and results through technical reports and presentations formal and informal design reviews published papers in peerreviewed journals and attendance at scientific meetings and conferences.
- Participate in field deployments exercises and sponsor visits.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications :
- Ability to secure and maintain a U.S. DOE Qlevel security clearance which requires U.S. citizenship.
- Masters degree in electrical engineering computer science or a closely related technical field or the equivalent combination of education and related experience.
- Comprehensive knowledge and broad experience in solving moderately complex to complex level computer vision and image processing problems.
- Proficiency in design and implementation of machine learning algorithms.
- Broad experience coding algorithms in C C Matlab Python or similar language used in the signal and image sciences.
- Broad experience in creating Web user interfaces utilizing the framework.
- Proficient verbal and written communication skills enabling effective technical presentations and reports and to successfully collaborate in a team environment.
- Ability to travel to customer locations and participate in field deployments and exercises.
Qualifications We Desire
- PhD in electrical engineering computer science or a closely related field.
- Proficient software development skills in the C Python and JavaScript programming languages with emphasis on Linux/UNIX environments.
- Experience in crafting successful research and development proposals in the signal and image sciences.
- Experience working within a national laboratory environment.
