Whats your day like

As a FullTime Therapist I in Juvenile Detention with the HamptonNewport News Community Services Board your day is centered on supporting youth during a pivotal time in their lives. Working in partnership with the Newport News Secure Juvenile Detention Center youll provide vital mental health and substance abuse services directly within the facility. Your day may include conducting clinical assessments trauma and substance use screenings and offering individual mental health consultations. Youll lead group counseling sessions respond to mental health crises and offer supportive services that help stabilize juveniles during their detention. Youll also play a critical role in coordinating reentry planning working closely with families to connect them with communitybased services that promote ongoing stability and success. Your work will have a lasting impact helping to guide youth toward positive change and healthier futures.

What you need to be successful

To thrive as a Full Time Therapist I in Juvenile Detention at the HamptonNewport News Community Services Board a strong foundation in clinical skills is essential. Candidates must possess a masters degree in human services along with at least one year of clinical experience working with juvenile populations. Successful Therapists in this role should demonstrate exceptional communication and interpersonal skills enabling them to build rapport with youth and their families effectively. Proficiency in crisis intervention strategies and the ability to conduct accurate assessments are crucial for addressing the diverse needs of juveniles in detention.

Knowledge and skills required for the position are:

  • Masters degree in a human services field such as Social Work Counseling or Psychology with one (1) year clinical experience with the assigned population.
