Job Description

Israel Community Coordinator (PartTime InPerson)

Location: Hillel at The George Washington University Washington D.C.
Hours: 1520 hours/week
Start Date: Mid August Mid December & Mid January Mid April

About the Role

Hillel at The George Washington University (GW Hillel) is seeking a thoughtful and passionate Israel Community Coordinator to support students in navigating what it means to relate to Israel in our modern times. This parttime inperson position is about more than cultural programming its about developing a path for students to connect with the lived reality of Israeli life beyond headlines hashtags and political narratives.

In this role youll help students access the real Israel its people its complexity its beauty and its contradictions not just the version debated in American discourse. Through one on one relationships programs and honest conversations youll support Israeli and American students alike in finding a sense of home and belonging at GW Hillel. Youll empower the broader Jewish student community to engage with Israel as it is: a dynamic diverse society full of real people and real stories.

Whether students are seeking clarity comfort connection or just community youll be a trusted presence someone who listens first guides gently and helps students build a personal nuanced relationship with Israel and their place in the Jewish world.

What Youll Do

  1. Israeli Cultural Programming
  • Design and implement fun engaging and diverse events that reflect the richness of Israeli culture including food popups Hebrew language classes holiday celebrations film screenings music nights and art projects and more.
  • Coordinate several anchor events during the year including October 7th Yom HaShoah Yom Hazikaron and Yom Haatzmaut.
  • Incorporate a wide range of cultural touch pointsfrom Mizrahi to Ashkenazi traditions Tel Aviv nightlife to hightech youll help students develop a meaningful relationship with Israel.
  • Serve as a connector to broader Israelrelated opportunities and resources within and beyond GW.
  1. Community Building for Israeli Students
  • Create a warm and supportive space for Israeli and IsraeliAmerican students at GW helping them feel seen heard and celebrated.
  • Organize regular gatherings for this growing community to connect with each other and local Israeli families through holidays current events discussions or simply over a shared meal.
  • Maintain strong connections for this community on campus through social media group chats and other channels.
  • Offer space for communal support during times of crisis or challenge in Israel.

What You Bring

  • You have extensive experience living working or studying in Israel.
  • You have a deep personal connection and knowledge of Israeli life.
  • Fluency in Hebrew is required.
  • A deep love for and connection to Israeli culture.
  • Experience creating engaging programs and facilitating community gatherings especially in Jewish communal settings.
  • Comfort working with a range of views on Israel and a commitment to open respectful dialogue.
  • Ability to plan and execute events from ideation to implementation.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with a warm inviting presence.

You will build one on one relationships with students plan and execute engaging events and programs around campus and help inspire students to make a commitment to Jewish life . The Israel Community Coordinator will continue to play a key role in this process. You will use this information to take advantage of our city as a learning laboratory helping students find meaningful opportunities for volunteering education bridge building and more. These opportunities should enhance their understanding of the world how they can make change and how they strengthen their own identity. You will be wellversed in the moment facing the Jewish community right now and will support students in taking ownership of their Jewish experience. Youll wake up each day (or at least most) and be genuinely excited and enthusiastic about creating an inviting place that inspires students to explore experience and create vibrant Jewish lives. This is so much more than your average 9to5.
