About the Department: Sid and Reva Dewberry Department of Civil Environmental and Infrastructure Engineering (CEIE) is a vibrant and fastgrowing department that offers MS and PhD programs in additionto an ABETaccredited BS degree. With special emphases in supporting the design construction maintenance operation and optimization of smart sustainable and resilient civil engineered systems and livable communities CEIEs total enrollment across all degrees has reached nearly 450 students and new research awards have experienced tremendous growth. CEIE faculty benefit from laboratory space at the Potomac Science Center a waterfront state of the art research facility at the tidal waters of Belmont Bay with 50000squarefoot that houses laboratories for teaching and research lecture rooms event space and outdoor trails. The department also has an enviable and strong relationship with industry including over 40 companies and individuals working in partnership as the Civil Engineering Institute ( a unique organization formed to support the mission and vision of the department. Further information about the department can be found on its web site at the Position: We seek outstanding candidates in the broad areas of Environmental and Water Resources Engineering. The successful candidate should enthusiastically contribute to the CEIE Environmental and Water Resources Engineering (EWRE) vibrant program and pursue a research portfolio that addresses the unprecedented challenges impacting societys sustainability and the resilience of smart cities the environment and infrastructure. Candidates are expected to actively engage in convergent research endeavors. The faculty member will develop a program of scholarly research teach undergraduate and graduate courses participate in university college and departmental governance performs professional and public service and performs related instructional assignments such as supervising senior projects student internships and practicum. Evaluation of candidates will be based on the innovative nature of their work and their potential for future excellence rather than any particular specialization. While CEIE is open to applicants with a range of expertise and interests the successful applicant will have the background to teach courses in environmental and water resources engineering areas. |
Responsibilities: - Teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in environmental and water resources engineering;
- Develops an independent externally funded research program;
- Advises students;
- Participates in all aspects of the departments mission; and
- Serves the profession.

Required Qualifications: - PhD in Environmental Engineering Civil Engineering or a related field by the start date of the position; and
- Demonstrated potential for excellence and productivity in research and a commitment to highquality teaching.

Preferred Qualifications: - Expertise in the broad areas of Environmental and Water Resources Engineering such as but not limited to:
- Environmental informatics (machine learning big data digital twins geospatial modeling smart systems and sensors intelligent engineering and cyberphysical systems in environmental engineering);
- Climate change impacts on water resources and related infrastructure;
- Ecohydrology (humanecosystem interactions urban drainage groundwater modeling);
- Fate and transport of pollutants within environmental and engineered systems;
- Electro chemical and/or biological remediation technologies for emerging contaminants;
- Water quality and/or environmental process modeling;
- Freshwater management in natural and anthropogenic environments;
- Advanced water and wastewater treatment processes;
- Experience conducting interdisciplinary research which will complement the current expertise in our department and college; and
- Ability to build collaborations with other departments within the college and across the university.
