Job Description

Empower. Advocate. Lead.
Join the New Mexico Immigrant Law Center (NMILC) as a Staff Attorney II and make a direct impact on the lives of unaccompanied minors and survivors of human trafficking and crime. Youll provide highquality legal representation shape legal strategies and advocate for justice in immigration and state courts.


Primary Responsibilities

  • Represent NMILC clients directly including legal research case strategy client interviews court appearances and preparing legal documents.
  • Conduct trainings for attorneys nonlegal providers and community members including KnowYourRights presentations and consultations at community events.
  • Build and maintain relationships with community stakeholders such as legal service providers advocacy groups and government officials.
  • Support NMILCs internal operations by participating in meetings ensuring data integrity in case management systems and contributing to office leadership.
  • Identify and address legal advocacy issues and service needs collaborating with staff and partner organizations.
  • Represent NMILC at stakeholder meetings conferences and community events.
  • Supervise and mentor interns/volunteers and oversee legal clinics and community programs with support from managing attorneys.

Qualifications

  • Juris Doctor from an accredited law school; admitted to a state bar with a requirement to become locally admitted within a year if not already.
  • Proficiency in Spanish.
  • At least two years of relevant immigration law experience.
  • Experience working with legal volunteers and managing multiple tasks in a fastpaced environment.
  • Commitment to traumainformed culturally competent legal assistance for crime victims/survivors.
  • Strong legal research writing leadership and mentoring skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams and stakeholders including in remote settings.

Salary and Benefits

    • NMILC currently offers a generous benefits package including:
      • 100% of Individual Employee Health Premium paid by NMILC for the Base Plan and 50% for dependents. Buyup Plan also available.
      • Upon meeting 401k plan eligibility requirements access to discretionary employer match up to 10% of base salary (determined each fiscal year based on funding projections).

      • Companypaid federal holidays in addition to 2 weeks of winter break 1 week for spring break and 1 week for summer break and other days as established in coordination with the local public school schedule
