The Department of Surgery at the University of Utah is actively recruiting qualified applicants for the position of Chief Division of Surgical Oncology Department of Surgery. Description: The Division of Surgical Oncology is one of eight divisions within the Department of Surgery at the University of Utah. The Chief of Surgical Oncology will be responsible for overseeing and advancing the surgical oncology program within University of Utah Health (U of U Health) Huntsman Cancer Institute ( HCI ) an NCI designated Comprehensive Cancer Center and affiliated sites. The Division of Surgical Oncology includes Complex General Surgical Oncology Breast Surgery Melanoma Gastrointestinal Colorectal Peritoneal Advanced HepatoPancreatoBiliary ( AHPB ) and Endocrine Surgery faculty. This position is a critical leadership role that will involve guiding and coordinating the divisions strategic clinical educational and research activities. The selected candidate will have a proven track record of excellence in surgical oncology strong leadership abilities and a passion for advancing patient care education and research in the field of surgical oncology. Requirements: Recognized academic surgical oncologists qualified for or at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor. Strategic vision for the Division and accountability to fulfill the education research clinical and administrative service missions and values of the Department. Strong leadership abilities and management experience in multidisciplinary environments and ability to influence and motivate faculty and support a culture of collaboration quality and efficiency. Demonstrated commitment through mentorship to foster the growth of others through a collaborative mindset and aptitude to motivate others through inspiration effective communication and good listening skills that result in a strong level of trust and guidance. Strong commitment to the educational excellence and advancement of faculty trainees students and advanced practice clinicians (APCs). Proven success in advancing research and educational missions evidenced by securing NIH or similar independent research funding obtaining training grants and contributing to the body of knowledge with foundationsupported initiatives. Candidates will have demonstrated effective leadership experience as well as a commitment to excellence in all three traditional academic missions of clinical practice education and research. The candidate must have the ability to work cooperatively and collegially within a diverse environment and lead by example. The Chief will work closely with the Chair of Surgery and HCI leaders to promote a collaborative environment that enhances clinical growth and excellence along with academic development by advancing research activities consistent with Department and Institutional missions. The selected candidate will be a strategic leader who will promote a strong culture of institutional stewardship throughout the University of Utah Health Care system. The Chief will work closely and collaboratively with the Chief Clinical Officer of HCI . The Chief will be a member of several key strategic and operational committees within HCI . Within HCI there are 10 transdisciplinary Disease Centers. Examples include Breast/Gyn Melanoma GI and Head & Neck. The faculty within the Division of Surgical Oncology are members of a Disease Center. The Chief will be a key contributor to the Disease Centers. Prospective candidates must have an MD degree and be boardcertified in Surgical Oncology completed an ACGME accredited complex surgical oncology fellowship program have at least eight years postfellowship experience as an attending surgical oncologist and be eligible for licensure in the state of Utah. Additional instruction in advanced leadership or management training (e.g. ACS Physician Executives or Physician in Management series) is highly preferred. It also includes six residency programs and over 18 clinical fellowship programs along with numerous research fellowship positions.
