The Research Manager NCRIS Radiocarbon will lead a research project between the CHRONOS Radiocarbon Facility and the Centre for Accelerator Science at the Australian Nuclear Science and Technology Organisation (ANSTO) as part of National Collaborative Research Infrastructure Strategy (NCRIS) funding. Based at the UNSW Chronos Radiocarbon Facility the role will work between UNSW and ANSTO and will liaise with the Radiocarbon Laboratory at the Australia National University.
Chronos is based around an Ionplus MICADAS (Mini Carbon Dating System) accelerator mass spectrometer (AMS). The facility was developed in collaboration with researchers at ANSTO and is in a stateoftheart purposebuilt laboratory at the Kensington Campus of UNSW part of the Mark Wainwright Analytical Centre. The facility includes equipment for chemical sample preparation graphitisation for AMS dating and stable isotope ratio mass spectrometry (IRMS).
Radiocarbon facilities at ANSTO Centre for Accelerator Science (an NCRISfunded national user facility based at ANSTO Lucas Heights campus) include the NEC 1MV Vega accelerator and a suite of laboratories dedicated to the processing of samples and graphite target preparation including an accredited Biosecurity Approved Arrangement (AA) for the import and processing of biosecurity materials.
The Research Manager will manage the collaborative NCRIS project between UNSW and ANSTO by coordinating an intercomparison and harmonising protocols and archiving radiocarbon data. This role reports to the CHRONOS Director and has no direct reports.

About the successful applicant:
You hold a relevant postgraduate qualification and or substantial experience in geochronologyparticularly radiocarbon dating. A strong knowledge base in earth sciences and chemistry is highly desirable.
Youll bring proven management experience be adept at working with databases with experience in quarantine procedures or laboratory accreditation. Your background should include collaborative research and data handling preferably in geochronology though expertise in related fields such as earth sciences or chemistry is also valued.
You will need to demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills a keen eye for detail and the ability to influence senior stakeholders to achieve effective outcomes. Mentoring junior staff and working effectively within a team environment are essential as is your capacity to build strong relationships with both internal and external stakeholders.
You can demonstrate your highlevel organisational analytical and problemsolving skills with the ability to independently address experimental challenges. Experience interpreting and presenting analytical data contributing meaningfully to scientific reporting and managing competing demands while working autonomously is expected. Finally you should demonstrate a strong alignment with UNSWs values and objectives along with a clear understanding of your health and safety responsibilities and a commitment to relevant training.
