AUDIENCE ENGAGEMENT PRODUCER
Chron seeks an Audience Development Producer to help promote content both on and offplatform. The person in this role will work 9:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. to manage Chrons social media efforts and site including pulling extra stories off the news wires when necessary. The ideal candidate will be wellversed in how to write compelling social copy and SEO headlines and descriptions fearless in terms of diving into content management systems and other programming systems to schedule and optimize stories and eager to find compelling usergenerated content to bolster Chrons social. This person will also take on the important role of listening and responding to reader comments on Chron social accounts and will help the audience development editor to develop new video franchises create content promotion plans for editorial initiatives and evolve Chrons strategy for growing audience reach.
Primary responsibilities:
- Create compelling design builds for social promotion and post and share Chron content across social including secondary platforms like Reddit and Threads
- Monitor reader comments on social platforms and escalate to leadership as needed
- Help the audience development editor develop promotion plans social designs and video content
- Help develop social strategy and a scheduling calendar with the audience editor to grow Chrons presence offplatform
- Manage the Chron site as needed including pulling stories from the wires or other sources curating the home page and optimizing stories for recirculation as they go viral
- Help send newsletters notifications and alerts as needed
Requirements
- 12 years of relevant experience managing social media accounts ideally in publishing or digital media
- Excellent news judgment
- Willingness to work 9:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.
- Familiarity with the needs of a Houston and Texas audience
- Solid writing and communication skills including knowledge of AP Style
- Experience writing social copy headlines decks and captions
- Facility with content management systems and analytics tools
Preferred skills
- Knowledge of social media platforms and audience habits particularly around video
- Experience using audience and analytics tools like Chartbeat Google Analytics Looker
- Experience working with content management systems and publishing to digital platforms
The most challenging aspect of this position:
- Developing and adapting social strategy for secondary platforms like Reddit and BlueSky
- Understanding audience habits and helping craft a strategy that reaches existing and new audiences
- Being willing to pivot plans as algorithms change and find new solutions to engaging audiences
