Job Description

Reports To: Principal

Duty Days:187 Days

Wage/Hour Status:Exempt

Pay Grade: I00

Qualifications:

Bachelors degree in related field

Valid Texas certificate in appropriate area

Ability to work effectively between the school and community

Experience in providing instruction to students with autism spectrum disorder

Valid CPI certification(Preferred or after employment)

Primary Purpose:

Provide special education consultation and instruction to meet the needs of eligible studentsidentified with autism spectrum disorder.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Participate in ARD/IEP meetings for eligible students.
  2. Complete local state and federal paper work required for program participation.
  3. Develop and implement instructional program goals to meet the individual needs of each student and accountable for the KISD autism program teaching competencies.
  4. Demonstrate competence in the principles of changing behavior including consideration of environmental factors and manipulating antecedents and consequences.
  5. Administer criterion referenced district and state testing as appropriate.
  6. Provide ongoing communication with parents/guardians campus staff and special education supervisors.
  7. Collect and maintain appropriate data to measure student progress.
  8. Provide instruction using curriculum environmental adaptations and accommodations and instructional methods proven effective through current scientifically based research.
  9. Use teaching procedures that promote generalization and maintenance of skills.
  10. Participate in required continuing professional development designed to further develop knowledge and skills.
  11. Physically prompt students through instruction which may require lifting and positioning.

Equipment Used:

Personal computer copier printer and fax machine motor lab equipment adaptive equipment voice output devices playground equipment.

Working Conditions:

Maintain emotional control under stress. Frequent standing stooping kneeling pushing and pulling; occasional running heavy lifting and carrying 45 pounds and over daily positioning of students moving classroom or adaptive equipment noise exposure biological exposure to bacteria and communicable diseases; exposure to physical and verbal outbursts by students. May be required to utilize CPI strategies to manage disruptive students including restraint.
