Job Description

Coventry Public Schools is hiring an 8 hr/day 1st Shift Maintenance Worker. Qualifications:High School diploma or GEDValid drivers license(preferred)Proven record of excellent attendance & work FUNCTIONS:Performs a variety of work covering all phases of skilled and semiskilled tasks in assisting other personnel with the maintenance and installation of electrical carpentry and plumbing machinery buildings and equipment; to perform other work as required by physical plant such as grounds keeping custodial etc. REQUIREMENTS:A. High School Trade Schools or equivalent.B. Licenses are helpful but not mandatory.C. Experience such as may have been gained through employment in the construction trade building and plant maintenance work which has involved at least eight (8) years of workrelated experience.D. Must have ability to read blueprints.E. Valid Drivers License and Class 2 license.F. Valid phone FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB:Must be able to stand and move for long periods of time (6 hrs.)Must be able to bend squat and twist on a regular basis during an 8hour shiftMust be able to lift or move up to 50 be able to operate motorized equipment and toolsMust be able to bend at waist over equipment for short periods of time (30 minutes) Must be able to work outside and in different temperature environmentsMust be able to use and wear personal protection equipmentMust be able to understand and follow oral and written AND DUTIES:A. Assist in all aspects of plumbing repairs and new installations.B. Be responsible for assisting in all preventative maintenance.C. Assist in repairs of heating systems.D. Replace bulbs shades repair blinds broken glass etc.E. Help electricians in major and minor electrical maintenance and repair; oil adjust and care for electrical motors.F. Make repairs to floors and baseboards.G. Remove replace or repair screens as needed.H. Help carpenter in major and minor carpentry maintenance repair and new construction.I. Help mechanics in major and minor mechanical maintenance repair and new projects.J. Help groundskeeper in repair and new landscape or projects.K. Mix cement and plaster and make minor plastering and cement repairs.L. Perform pointing of brick walls as needed.M. Paint buildings rooms walls or other surfaces as assigned.N. Care of sewage disposal systems as needed.O. Perform any masonry work in connection with buildings foundations walls and walks.P. Make repairs to roofs and install flashing and spouts.Q. Weld cut braze metals by use of Arc and acetylene welders.R. Check and change filters on dust collectors and air handling equipment.S. Service fire and safety equipment as directed by the supervisor; observe and practice all OSHA and related safety rules and regulations.T. Perform general maintenance to school properties if not listed above as needed in the various trade areas such as plumbing carpentry painting electrical mechanical grounds etc. as needed or directed by the Director of Physical Plant.U. Perform other related assignments as requested by the Director of Physical AND CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:Twelve (12) month position with salary benefits and hours of work to be in accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
